Flipcover mod for MemPlug, Prism
I had a FlipCover on my Deluxe, and loved it- although I did not like the fact that I could not use my FlashPlus with it.
Now, with my Prism, I decided to try again.
I ordered a new Flipcover lid, 2 Prism hinges, and a module adapter. I SHOULD have just re-used my old Flipcover lid, but I did not for some reason. Sigh.
Anyway- the self-adhesive module adapter is designed to fit on the top of a flush-mounted module, like the back-up module, and it does the job very well.
On the MemPlug and FlashPlus, it prevents the removal of the card, however. Not a good thing!
I decided to experiment and I used a small diagonal cutting pliers to snip away most of the plastic that blocks the memory card (CompactFlash in my case).
Then I stuck the adapter to the top of the MemPlug, making sure it was flush on the sides and back. Then I used a Dremel tool to carve away the rest of the obstructing parts of the adaptor, so I had a clean, flush opening for the card to slide into.
I cleaned out the debris (which turned out to be a huge pain- the stuff stuck everywhere inside the module!), reassembled everything, and tried it out!
So far, it is working great! The adhesive on the adapter is so strong that even the relatively little small 'footprint' is holding it great! It is so strong that it is holding it even though I snapped the adapter in half when I was trying to 'cut out' bits with the pliers early on!
The response time from FlipCover was very fast- I had the cover about 4 days after placing the order, and the contruction of the cover, hinge, and adapter is very good- solid plastics with no flaws I could find.
Although I am still looking for the 'perfect case' for my specific needs, the FlipCover lets me carry the Prism in a pocket or pouch with a lot less worry!
I wondered if that would work...

Be very careful using the flipcover with the Prism. I used one for
quite a while and then noticed that the plastic around the
hotsync port was chipping away. The little protrusions are hard
on the plastic when inserting and removing. Finally, the hotsync
port broke off inside the Prism. Just a word of warning!

Preventing accumulation- I bet a wad of paper towelling would stop it pretty well. I went after the remainder with a long probing needle and canned air.
The static is a big part of the problem. Maybe a dryer sheet used as wadding would be the ticket- it might help reduce the cling!
Chipping near Hot-Sync port- thanks for the heads up! I do not see any happening on mine, but it snaps closed pretty firmly. I may try to 'soften it' by either relaxing the lower curve a bit, or filing away the two prongs a little.
