I was inspired to take apart my Visor today after seeing an article PDA Buzz about making the PalmV glow (see http://www.fureai.or.jp/~mori-t/a05...me_lightl.htm).

Anyways, it was rather simple. I rook out the four tiny screws (two in the recessed holes on the bottom of the back, and two at the top of the springboard compartment). Then I gently pulled the halves apart with the aid of my thumb nails. Inside, I saw the ribbon cable for the screen and the fabled ZIF-like socket for it. I plucked one edge of the little brown tabs on the ZIF-like socket and the ribbon cable jumped out.

I was looking to see if the greenish-grey silkscreening on the back of the graffiti area could be easily rubbed of to let the backlight shine through. Unfortunately, the backlight and LCD screen both stop short of the graffiti area. The only functional technology on that part of the glass is the touch-sensors.

Perhaps the PalmV shown in the site is different? I can't read Japanese and couldn't find a decent translation website that offered Japanese to English.

But, it was fun!

Oh,and yes, I put it back together and it still works

http://www.tranexp.com:2000/InterTran? is an OK Japanese-English translation website. It has lots of other languages too!

altavista has a great translation program. I have always wanted to take my visr apart but am scared of breaking it or voiding the warrenty. my friend has a palm 3x and says it voids no warrenty because there is an internal expansion slot is that true on visor is there any way to upgrade the insides

Hope you have replies posted to your email.

Did you happen to notice if you could slide the screen either way. Mine is off center just a bit, and I have thought about taking it apart to fix it. It really is only noticeable when I have the backlight on...I get a thin green line down one side.

I am a freak for wanting to fix this....but I don't think it warrents sending it back to HS......

Let me know!

I, too, took apart my BDX because the screen sank whenever I tapped in the upper right corner of the screen. I fixed it by fitting small pieces of paper in the housing around the top area where the screen is made stationary. rclayton, if you look at the top of the screen when your Visor is disassembled you will notice two silver tabs with holes in the middle. Those, in turn, have plactic posts to position the screen inside the case. Check to see if those are broken or if there is any play which will allow you to reposition the screen. As a result of the repairs, my unit is as solid as ever. I got my InnoPak yesterday and my Visor vibrated as if it was going to fall apart! There aren't anymore rattles since I fixed it. Puttin the paper in it pushed the screen flush with the case. Another bebefit: fewer creaks. Good luck, rclayton!
