VPR Case paint

I was an early adopter (1st VPR at my local staples. they had to open the shipping containers to get it...had a $40 off coupon) and my VPR paint is wearing off near the power button, the corners etc. It wears a Vaja flip case but has to be removed for Hotsync. I know Handspring will send me a refurbished, but do I need to?? Does the paint get worse?

I am particular about how it looks but a few wears is not bad.
