Hotsync question

I usually hotsync to my laptop. I just recently bought a new computer. What is the safest way to start hotsyncing to the new computer. Should I install the desktop application and then hotsync with the visor set to overwrite the desktop. Would this install all of my conduits to the new computer. Will I be able to hotsync to both computers? I thought I would seek some knowledge before messing something up.

I hotsync with two computers. One at home and one at work. Each computer has no way of knowing that 'another computer' is involved. They each only see the changes to the PDA. I use the default settings on both machines (synchronize). The thing to be careful about is changing the same information in more than one place. If you do this, you will get unexpected results Typically, you get duplicate entries for memo pad. I'm not sure about Datebook because I use intellisync at work to sync to Lotus Notes and it gives me the opportunity to resolve any conflicts found.

To start synching with the new computer, just install the palm desktop and synchronize. It is always a good idea to have a full backup around and I'd update it just before the new computer sync. I and other people on this forum have used BackupBuddy with great confidence (and gratitude

Are you saying to initially use Palm Desk. as a backup during first HotSynch?

Also, if I want to clean out my Visor completely, using my PIM as my backup (of couse conduits are in place), how can I do a clean install for my Visor, if at all? Do you follow me?

I am still not able to intuit how you synch up to two computers, I would like to do this with synching a Visor to a PC and a Mac. Think I can do this?

I'll try to be more clear this time...

Disclaimer: I am completly ignorant of Mac/PDA interactions, setup, etc.

My advise would be (and I'd do this if I were in your shoes):

1) make sure you had a backup of everything you want to keep on my PDA, just to be on the safe side. Backup Buddy is a great (host side) application to do this. A backup module is another good option.

Note: "host side" means that it runs on the computer, not on the handheld

2) Install the host side software on your second computer. As pointed out by ashmed, you many need to install several different packages, like HanDbase conduit or SplashID conduit.

3) hot sync with your new computer

That's really all there is to it.

The only 'gotcha' in hot synching to two computers as opposed to one is that you have one extra place to change things at and it is easier to create conflicts. You can still create conflicts with only one computer, for example, by modifying the same memo pad entry on both the PDA and the desktop.
