I recently noticed my VDX had developed a crack on the inside corner of on of the flanges which retains the springboard module. I called customer service (only a few minutes on hold) to see if they would sent me a new back cover so I could repair the unit myself or get a RMA# to send it back for repair. Much to my surprise the Customer Service Rep. immediately stated they would send me a new unit to swap-out for the unit I currently have. Although I am grateful for this type of service, I am unsure about giving up a unit which is working well for me, but that is a topic for another thread. (I am not complaining, just a little shocked.)

Anyway here is my question. I have the back-up module for everyday back-ups, but I also sync with my home computer once in awhile. What is the best way to transfer all of the information to the new unit. Although I do not use Back-up Buddy, I can sync and manually load all the information (apps, data bases....)from the computer. It seems like a no brainer to just use the back-up module, but I am concerned about restoring different versions of the handsping installed OS or apps. Since the OS is stored in ROM, am I worried over nothing? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You can back up from the module with no problem (as far as I have read, there are no problems except you might have to reset categories for some built-in apps...) The module stores an "image" of your device's RAM, so when you plug it into a new Visor and restore, you should "get your old Visor back," including third-party stuff, apps, and DB's. As far as the operating system goes, all Visors currently use the same OS, and it's burned in; the backup module doesn't "back up" the OS anyway, so you won't have to worry about the OS being overwritten.

I used the backup module to restore to my current visor after a hard reset and to a replacement visor. Smooth as could be - no problems encountered on either one.

There is one difference that isn't mentioned in the documentation - when you attempt to restore to a different visor it starts out with a prompt - don't remember the exact wording but - something to the effect that the data on the backup module did not come from this Visor do you want to proceed. I said OK and everything loaded fine.

This is good information for the backup module.
I ordered the backup module last night after having to hard reset my VDx after getting a fatal exception error. Soft resets wouldn't solve the problem.
Unfortunately, I currently do not have anything to backup as it was all erased. I know, my fault. Should have gotten the backup module or synched to a PC.
