-- NT Syncing (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2150)
Does anyone know the proper Com port settings for a NT4 workstation that would allow me to sync my Visor? I have a Mac at home and it syncs just great, but, being Windows illiterate, I can't seem to get my Visor to sync with my computer at work. All I get is a message saying the comport is not available. I've installed the desktop software three times now and the last two times I recieved a message informaing me that both com ports are busy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I assume you are using a serial cradle?
If not it will not work, NT4 does not support USB...
yes i'm using a serialcradle I just don't know how to properly set up the com ports tosync with my visor
I have mine set up on an added serial port card, so I have the speed set to 57600, but on the built in ones 'as fast as possible' works. I only have 'local serial' checked on the Hotsync manager, I think if you leave the USB option activated too you'll run into problems.
Hope that helps...
On the modern "windows" PCs, the comm ports
can be disabled via BIOS setting. If this
is the NT would not be able to use the
port.
When your machine first starts up after booting
look on the screen for some key(s) you should
hit to get into the BIOS setup. Once you are there
find the options for the serial ports and make
sure they are enabled. Another problem you could be having is a comm port conflict with an internal modem...do you have one? Last, check the control paner under system, and see if you have any comm ports listed.
You didn't mention whether or not it is a laptop or has Infrared.
Some laptops (like my Thinkpad 770) have the serial port disabled in favor of IR and have to have the settings changed in BIOS. For instance, I cannot have both serial and IR running during the same session (I have to reboot to switch).
Desktops with both might have the same problem, I guess.
