Unhappy Prism -> Platinum

Here's one that I hope y'all can help me on. First, the setup.

I currently have a Visor Prism (16Mb upgraded) with the latest version of Memplug. I religiously backup my Prism twice a day to assure me that I'm never more than 6 hours from a backup and restore procedure. As all of you know, the Prism is great with all its colors and glory, but my biggest gripe is that I can't see anything when I'm outside during the day. For what it's worth, I really can't fully utilize the Prism's capabilties while in sunlight. As a result, I've defaulted to a refurbished Platinum (16Mb upgraded) and used the Memplug to restore what I had in the Prism to the Platinum.

Now for my point. After successfully restoring everything on the Platinum, I wanted to change the battery type from alkaline to NiMH. As usual, I went to the Memo pad and performed the usual .7 gesture. The unit crashed. A soft reset was all that was required to get me back and running again. However, now I can't change the battery type. I theorize that since I was restoring data from a Prism, which have non-removable Lith-ion batteries thus nullifying the .7 gesture, the settings were also inherited by the Platinum.

I've tried to selectively restore preferences which may not contain the setting, but to no avail. Everything works as it should, but now my battery meter on the Platinum doesn't display the correct value. It just continues to gnaw at me...

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

Exclamation No help here, but thanks for the warning!

I was going to do the same thing you are doing, but with 8MB Prism, 8MB Neo, and 8MB backup module.

Surely, Handspring has tried this. I would think that a lot of people might switch back and forth between B&W and color.

Maybe it has something to do with your upgrade: it sees 16MB and thinks you have a Li-ion rechargeable Pro!

Just a thought. But, now I am scared to try this on my new refurb Neo when it gets here next week.

Oh, well, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I WILL give it a go and let you know what happens to me!

One other thought, might some color apps have caused the B&W Plat to crash in the first place?

And, finally, did you try the hard reset to get your battery type shortcut to work again? If so you might want to try a Handspring 16 MB backup module instead of the PI Backup app. Maybe there is something there it does not like. My 8 MB backup module has been infallible, except, of course, when my Prism would not recognize ANY Springboard or gave me a Fatal Error if it did. See my thread in Springboards about that about that!
