Saitek Light Stylus Reviewed

I bought the Saitek Light Stylus as a stocking stuffer for my brother this Christmas (I also got him a wireless keyboard and mouse combo - he got me a new Panasonic DVD player). I liked the concept, and at $9.99 I figured I couldn't go wrong.

The stylus doesn't feel quite right in my hand, and the lighted tip was kind of...for lack of a better word....cheesy. When you twist the tip to actuate the lighting element, it flickers repeatedly until you find the "sweet spot" at which it remains lit, a definate pain.

More importantly, I couldn't find a head (it comes with four to choose from) that would work well with my VDX. The one that was for Handspring products was too small...I had to dig into the Visor's slot to get the darned thing out...not impossible but annoying again.

I'm pretty sure the thing was tossed out with the Christmas wrapping paper. At $10 it was no big loss. I will stick to my authentic Handspring Stylus pen, which has the look and feel of a quality product.

If your dying for a lighted stylus, this thing does work, but be aware....this could easily appear on TV as "The Amazing Ronco Lighted Stylus" in the next few months. Its that kind of product.

I got the light stylus too, and came up with the same conclusions.

My main problems (and likes)

1) Too light
2)No Visor head, I found one that semi worked... but it wasn't a Visor head.
3) Battery more expensive them stylus (the only place I found to buy them was online for $5, plus $6 shipping)
4) Stylus can turn on while in Visor, battery than dies..

What I like...

The clear tip aganst the Prism looks really cool - even with the light off.

The light was a focused beam...

I found it was steady and even.

My last regret is the reset pin being too short for the Prism.. I can't live with that! So I'm back to my normal HS stylus. (yup I STILL use the stock metal stylus)

pheeew..good thing i didnt jump for this a best buy last week. 10 bux isn't that much to spend on sothing that LOOKED realy kewl. My sister bought me a pentopia stylus for christmas and it works wonders.

Ummmm...

I thought that you turned the stylus on and off by twisting the tail, not the pointed end.

At least that's how mine works.

I expect to use mine extensively around August, when I have to camp out with my wife at her booth in the Maryland Renaissance faire. When the sun goes down, anywhere outside becomes dark. It's hard to see the TapPad layout in the dark.

I'm also cheating with my Rhodiana case. It has an external pocket on the side for a stylus. So I store the Saitek in the external, and my standard Panache stylus in the Visor silo.

Tail Twister

I was twistin' the tip. I butchered the tail trying to find one that would work with my VDX. The friction fit basically allows one chance to get the tail right; in the end I determined that none of the provided tails was adaquate for the VDX slot.

I bought it because it was cheap, and it turned out to be just that. We quickly put it aside on Christmas morning and moved on to better gifts.

Thanks for the posts I was thinking of buying it but Best Buy was out and their web site was broken or something and I could not get to purchase it from the site, I guess I will wait( when and if ) until they update it with a bettere design
