I feel better about taking my Visor out on the trail with me, since I made recently purchased a waterproof/padded bag for it.
It's made by Voyageur, and I bought it from REI.com for $20.

That's the exact dry bag I got for my visor!

I have the same concerns about the bag (exposed face) that you have, but I'd feel confident clipping it to my backpack or shoulder strap for easy access.
Great suggestion - I've got another thread running that asked about bags of this type for a GPS.

I purchased a Voyager Drypack over the weekend for my Magellan/Visor combo, and I'm pretty pleased with it. It's a tight squeeze to get the unit in and out, but otherwise I was pretty happy with it when I took the combo out in a light drizzle over the weekend.

They make something very similar, and are based in the U.K.

The Aquapac cases designed for a Palm won't be big enough - you'd have to buy one for a GPS.
I eyeballed my prism with the GPS inserted, I think one of the GPS cases would work. They come in different sizes, and tell you what the maximum dimensions they would accomodate would be.
