Question

Has anyone found a way to turn off the alarm sound at the end of a task? Also, I am able to use the gmovies as long as they are in my main memory, but not off of the card. I have tried on 3 different occasions to create the Palm folder that is in the instructions, but it still does not work. Any ideas? Thanks, Waynorth

I've been seriously considering getting a memplug too and it just occurred to me about the fit with a case. From the picture I saw in the review, the Memplug looked like it bulged out the back a little bit. I've got a Vaja leather case, so can anyone tell me if squeezing the Visor/Memplug into it might be a problem?

I think any case that doesn't use the sewn in plastic cover will work.

I use a Handspring sports case which of course has no trouble with it.

Angry just got it, but trouble

I just got mine and have been happy with everything except the backup. It'll get to 100% and then the text cycles through every file on my visor again. I put it on the charger and it ran for 3 hours!!! Nothing was happening. The only way I got it to stop was to do a pin reset. gmedia and everything else works fine. I've tried it with several different cards as well, and I'm sure there's enough space on the card.

Thumbs up Memplug has Arrived

For you Canadian Visor owners, this was the breakdown for Total Cost of Ownership of the Memplug.

I ordered the Memplug on 01-03-16, and it arrived at Customs Canada(CC) on 01-03-21.
Arrived at my Post Office on 01-03-22.

Memplug + GST + PST + CC-Handling Charge = Total
Total cost in Canadian$= 78.41 + 5.49 + 5.49 + 5.00 = 94.39

Enjoy

Question Brain not working

Okay, my brain doesn't seem to be working. How do I get jpeg files from PC to visor. I tried just using Pinstall but it converts the files to a non-jpeg format.

I should know this but I'm just tooo tired.

Don't use your Visor at all!

Use a USB SmartMedia reader/writer connected to your computer.. that's the easiest way..

How much slower is it at transfers? I thought SM was supposed to be faster?

Altering contents on a Smart Media card takes some time, copying to the Visor is almost instantaneous though. One thing I notice is that the progress bar will finish up quite early, then it will kinda just sit there a bit, and then finish.

I also wish there was an option that you could turn off the stupid alarm sound after you do something.

Talking Just got my memcard and starting to play

My backup went well. It runs faster than a full HotSync transfer over a Serial base.

The constant wait state is very annoying. Almost every command waits 15 seconds after working before it beeps completion. I would like the beep to be turned off.

PiMover needs to keep a temporary .pdb or two so it can more quickly move through the FAT tables of both and switch between them.

I renamed the PiBackupDir. The wait state was so bad that this renaming took almost as long as the entire backup process. Renaming it back to PiBackupDir worked and handled a restore of one file that I had deleted.

We are looking into this problem now.
We will definately fixed it ASAP.

Don't forget to register your Memplug's module in our webpage, CSpotRun (with Memplug support) will be available for downloading in our webpage next week for registered users.

Hey PiDeveloper,

The "stupid alarm sound" is the "Alarm Sound". Could you change it to be the "System Sound"?

When the MemPlug finishes an operation, it is more a system notification rather than an alarm. Plus I have my alarm cranked up so that I can hear it from inside the case. I had to turn the alarm down here at work and almost missed a meeting when that alarm went off silently.

Talking Maps on memplug

Has anyone tried installing maps onto the memplug? How does it work? Can you view the maps off the memplug, or do you have to copy it to the visor first? Thanks for the feedback.

Question What do you get for piMover speed?

I just did a couple of time tests with PiMover. I loaded TomeRaider (85,100 bytes) and a bid document for it (KJ Bible 2,348,900 bytes)

To MemPlug TomeRaider Bible
Start Copy 0:00 0:00
99% flashing n/a 3:00
'Completed' 0:30 3:30
Done beep 0:55 3:55
pda dir sort 1:10 4:10

From MemPlug
Start Copy 0:00 0:00
99% flashing n/a 1:13
Done Beep 0:07 1:27

I store Mapopolis maps on the smartmedia card. You do need to move or copy them back to the Visor to use the. This is not a fault of the memplug, but a PalmOs issue. Palm applications do not automatically look for files on storage media. Hence each applications has to be adapted to be able to read files stored on the smartmedia card. The only applications for which this has be done are gMedia's movieplayer (which can even run from the card) and an adapted version of Cspotrun, which can read Doc files, when stored in the appropriate subdirectory. Memplug users need to pressure software writers to produce applications which allow database to be stored on the smartmedia card. Personally I would like to have GPS software which can use maps stored on the smartmedia card for use in conjunction with an externally attached GPS receiver.
In case of Mapopolis the maps have a different dos name then the one showing inside mapopolis. Therefore I only copy them from the smartmedia card to the Visor (instead of moving them). Otherwise when you move them back from the Visor to the card they no longer have the county name as filename, but something like Mapopolis45067.

I'm using my memplug to store my Geode maps until Geodiscovery gets their MMC functionality working..(amongst the many other things I have tucked away on my 64mb card )

Are you able to view your maps from the memplug? I have the 8mb flash module now, and I am able to view maps stored on the module. Will I be able to view my maps directly from the smartcard, or will I have to transfer them back and forth?

No, I have to transfer them back and forth, but at least I can rename the PDB file to something more useful than (i.e.)44998-9900.PDB , I can rename it BOSTON-NORTH.PDB

I hope when the GEODE's MMC cards are functional I won't even have to do this...
