has anyone determined if this deal is D-E-D dead? or just mis-linked?

Posted by Russtang on 04-04-2001 09:03 PM:

Thumbs up

The deal is still good. I ordered it an hour ago from Palmgear sales using that old fashioned device known as the telephone (800.741.9070). In stock & will ship out today.

Can't wait!

I phoned an order in to Palmgear a few hours ago only to have them call back and leave a message telling me that they cannot take any orders until monday and that I would have to call back. The guy that took my order did say they were in stock and he did not know why they were not on the website. I looks like he found out after I called and must have been told not to take any orders. He also said they were going to be the exclusive distributor for sounds good.
Not a very good way of doing business.

I told you!! They are pulling them from the retail channels and liquidating them through PalmGear -- My frind was told that by a retail store!

Smell the coffee

Exclusive provider of SoundsGood? My impression was that the SoundsGood sold well in retail chains. Not trying to put down PalmGear here but they aren't exactly the best solution for getting Springboards and certainly not the best exclusive dealer.

Maybe (and this is ONLY SPECULATION) what he meant - without knowing it, of course - was that Good was pulling the SG 1.0 from retail and distributing it through PalmGear at a cut rate, because they're clearing the channel to sell through with the SG 2.0. Again, just speculating, but it would be a reasonable explanation.

Posted by Celchu19 on 04-05-2001 04:13 AM:

well something is going to change in sounds good. Becuause if they could make these things for this price and still earn a profit then they would have done it that way so that they could undercut innogear. because they changed the price I think that something else below the serface changed too.

I e-mailed customer support at SG and they said that no SG 2.0 was on the drawing board but they could just not be telling me anything. I called Palmgear and they said they have plenty of SGs in stock and don't know why it's not on the website. I'm still contemplating getting one myself although it would be cool to carry one device and leave the old minidisc at home

Lightbulb possible spin on things

How about this for a Good scenario:

They are clearing out inventory of Good branded modules in preparartion for a buyout and rebranding by, say, Handspring?

Just a thought, no evidence whatsoever to back this up...

Thumbs up Received my PalmGear Sounds Good this week!

I ordered my SoundsGood device on (or around) last Saturday (3/31/01) or so. I got it in this week and I must say it's pretty durn cool!

I wasn't going to buy one, because I wanted a higher capacity (I actually posted such a response at the 2nd page of this thread). Boy, I'm glad I let my gadget sense drive my purchase!

While I was at it, I bought the external battery pack thinga majiggy that let's you use it outside of the Visor. It's well worth the extra $30+. I went to Wal-Mart tonight and picked up a Cassette deck adapter to plug it into my car stereo. It works beautifully! For only $14. Can't beat that price. Although, I was shocked to see that you could buy a CD player for about $25 (without the adapter and powersupply/cigarrette adapter).

Still, the sounds good has no moving parts (that I can see) and has the best sound around. I colleauge of mine indicated that he bought a $2-300 Diamond Rio device and that the SoundsGood, well, sounded better. Not my opinion, never tested them side by side. He also has a CASIOPeia that he doesn't lug around (too big), and also compared the SoundsGood superior to that as well. Interesting... Yet, again not my opinions.

I like it. With the EngergyClip(remembered what it was called) and the Cassette adapter/Module and a Visor you have all you need for a beautiful MP3 Experience ANYWHERE! Summer of '69 never sounded so good!

A great module and for $149, it's more than worth it.

Unhappy Wishful thinking...

If it were Mac-compatible, I would have purchased it immediately. Their allegiance to the Heart of Darkness keeps me from spending my bucks for their baby.

Amen. I don't know how many times it needs to be said - many Visor users are Mac faithful, and don't want to have to use an emulator to utilize a module for their handheld. (Sigh.)

The newer Palms are now coming with out-of-the-box support for Macs also. Although they don't use SB modules, maybe it will at least put some more pressure on Palm and Visor software/hardware manufacturers to include better Mac support...

FYI

The Soundsgood that I ordered for my wife arrived and with in a week she dropped it into some water (she was soaking her foot) - kerplunk! Visor and all. A day later both are working fully.

I called a few days ago to return mine since the headphone jack was cutting out some of the music and while listening to the looped hold music they announced that PalmGear was going to be the exclusive dealer of the SoundsGood. That's why it is being "pulled" from shelves as mentioned earlier in this thread.

I must say that just moments after leaving my name and number with the operator I had a person call me back and my exchange is on its way. I was very impressed with the service and courtesy of the people I spoke to. It was really a pleasure.

Glad to hear that all is well, you are lucky that it still works.

i had completely the opposite experience with palmgear. i ordered a soundsgood from them the first day the "sale" was announced. it has yet to arrive.

i emailed palmgear to get a tracking number for the package (asked them to ship it "priority" mail when ordered), but no one wrote me back.

two days later, i called palmgear to get a tracking number and they promised me they would call me back in 5 - 10 minutes with it. that was 4 days ago.

the other day i decided i wanted a total recall springboard but rather than deal with palmgear's nonsense again, i went and bought it at the business depot for C$200, about 25% more than palmgear is asking for it. i'll never order anything from them again and if my SG does not arrive before this friday i will call visa and have the purchase credited to my card. i'm amazed that in this day and age a company can do business as poorly as they do and still be around.

Well -- the concrete facts are starting to appear -- off retail channels and liquidate through PalmGear ....

Goods website states that it is is for sale at Palmgear.com - even for Europe consumers

Which still doesn't tell us any more than we knew before. If there is an SG2 on the horizon, this could simply be Good's way of clearing the channel so that Staples, etc., don't have tons of SG1's sitting around gathering dust.

Soundsgood Module $149

I ordered the Soundsgood module ($149) yesterday from Palmgear (before the price drop REALLY became public) and it should be here tomorrow. I asked the saleslady why Palmgear was selling them so cheap (i.e.<$100 off regular price) and she said Good Tech. has made Palmgear their exclusive distributor of the MP3 module and allowed them to drop the price.

Read this as you will, but my take was just that Good Tech. wanted to compete more favorably with Innogear's latest price drop and it is cheaper and more cost effective for them to produce the Soundsgood player by using only one distributor.

exclusive distributor ??

Amazon.com still sells it
