Question

hey all,

I have a bunch of mpegs I would like to convert to tealmovie format. I know I have to convert them to avi's first (sure wish tealpoint would fix that so you can convert mpegs straight to tealmovie format). Anyway, I am having a hard time doing this. I grabbed virtualdub, which was one of the apps recommended on tealpoint's site for converting movies, and I had heard it was pretty good. However, tealmovies created from avis-converted-from-mpegs using virtualdub are very poor. There is significant artifacting and the quality is poor. However, I notice that there are TONS of settings in virtualdub for video compression, etc.

Can someone tell me how best to convert mpegs to avis so they make adequate tealmovies? What apps should I use, what settings should I use, etc.

FYI, these would be color movies with sound to be used on a Prism.

Thanks for any help you can give me here!

I am interested...

When you convert to tealmovie format, can you downsize the movie to 160x160 or does the software do it automatically? I am curious also to the maximum size tealmovie can handle... is it only limited by the memory of the device you are storing onto?

1. Yes, it automatically resizes it. There is also a crop option, mainly for widescreen.
2. Theres no limit, and to take advantage of this TealMovie has a beta out that supports the MemPlug.

I must say, TealMovie's convertor stinks. At least gMovie can convert from .mov and .mpeg, who uses .avi anymore? Various free convertors I've tried using to go from .mov to .avi hav all looked horrible after converted. The only way it looks to make a decent conversion is to buy the full version of QuickTime ($30).
