-- ThinModem won't dial! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11455)
Hello,
I just bought a new Thinmodem from CompUSA this evening. I configured it for my Earthlink account according to the directions. When I go to connect, the speaker comes on, I hear the dial tone, the ThinModem dials, but the dial tone is still there all the time. After a minute, I get the recording "If you'd like to make a call..." (just as if I left the phone off the hook).
I tried dialing manually using the "Online" terminal program and had the same results. When I issue an "AT" command, the modem echos back "OK" like it is supposed to. When I enter ATDT and the phone number, again, I hear the dial tone and the modem trying to dial - but the dial tone never goes away. It's as if the phone line doesn't recognize the tones.
- I have a new Visor Platinum.
- I have downloaded and installed the latest ThinModem code v1.41.
- I have played with all kinds of settings, including changing the dialing properties country from "United States" to "Other" in an attempt to have it try to detect the phone system.
- I have tried this on 2 different phone lines, and have the same results. No matter what I do, I just get a steady dial tone before, during and after the modem dialing.
I know my lines are good, my desktop and laptop can dial out fine on both lines.
Any ideas? I'm desperate!
Dial out problem
The only thing I can think of is you are using the phone line that is looped through your pc modem. Did you make sure and disconnect you pc modem or make sure it is not on auto answer?
Yes. Even went to different rooms of the house and plugged into both lines. No dice.
Got a very quick reply from Card-Access Tech support. They said I have a bad modem. Back to CompUSA I go!
Thanks!
