Visor Deluxe Erratic digitization

The symptom: I had noticed that handwriting recognition at times was becoming increasingly difficult. Also, selecting small buttons (particulary the "switch view" buttons in the calendar app) was getting harder and harder. When I launch a graphics program like Scratchpad and try to draw a straight vertical line, I more often get something that closer resembles a letter Z. If I just press the stylus down in one place on the screen, I get a jagged horizontal line, anywhere from 1/8" to 1" long. Resetting the digitizing function in the Prefs panel has no effect. Sometimes powering off and powering on seems to help, but not permanently. I've tried hard and soft resets. I've opened the unit and checked to make sure that all of the connectors are seated properly.

This is my second Visor Deluxe, the first having been replaced for $99 by Handspring after it began eating AAAs at an alarming pace. Unfortunately, I think this new unit is just out of its warranty.

Please tell me this isn't a hardware problem!

It sounds like a hardware problem to me. My old Visor Deluxe has been having digitizer problems as well. It is slightly off in the lower left corner of the screen.

You can replace the Digitizer, but it might be more cost effective to get a new PDA.

For Visor Parts you can try GetHighTech
