-- Strange Mac Hotsync Solution (I wish I didn't have to...) (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=1762)
I have a 9600 w/ an xlr8 USB card. I also have a Diamond USB modem. In order for me to hotsync (or even have the Visor see my computer) I have to unplug my modem and restart my computer and then I can hotsync.
I really wish I didn't have to do that... has anyone else run into a similar problem?
Every time I have to enable hotsync in the manager and if I try to hotsync w/ the modem plugged in, it gives me the port in use error. If I then unplug the modem, it just can't find my computer and only after I restart, does it work.
I really hope I don't have to crawl around on the floor every time I want to sync my Visor...Am I missing something?
I ran into a similar problem after installing Handspring's MacPac 2.1 on my iMac (Rev. B, MacOS 8.6), namely, Remote Access gives an error saying that the modem port is in use. The reason is that the default install places an item called 'Serial Port Monitor' in the Startup Items folder that enables Hotsync by default. When Hotsync is enabled, it uses both the USB port and the iMac internal modem, so to use the modem for anything else (like Internet access!) you have to disable Hotsync in the Hotsync Manager's Hotsync Controls tab.
Hope this helps.
Try this:
1. Launch the HotSync Manager app on your Mac;
2. Bring up the Setup dialog (from one of the menus -- I don't have a Mac handy to verify menu name)
3. In the left tab, Disable HotSync
4. In the right tab, change settings to make sure that only Local USB is enabled (no serial).
5. Back in the left tab, Enable HotSync.
Hope this helps

Best regards
I will try these solutions, but to let you know, I have a USB modem, not a serial one. However, we will see tonight... I'll get back.
