-- Paint Problem with Platnium too? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10215)

Red face

I have heard from a few people that the paint on their Platniums started to wear off and they are brand new. Is this a known issue with the Platniums as well as the Prisms?

I think it's more of a 'scratching off' problem then a 'wearing off' problem. Anyway, I love my platinum, but hate the case...I'm looking for a dead delux/solo to swap cases with. Either that, or someone better start making replacement cases soon. I just can't understand why they wouldn't use a better quality finish. (i.e. Mould the case out of silver and DON'T paint it, or use metal or something to that effect).

Cheers,
Mark

Do a forum search for:

Platinum Paint

and you'll see several threads. Some say "yes, it's a problem", some say "no, it's not".

My gently used 1 month old platinum is "losing" its paint at the points on the case that touch the supplied plastic clip on cover. The molded plastic casing of the platinum is a similar color to the paint but not exact. The plastic does not have the shine the paint does and when it wears off it is less appealing to look at. I could understand after a longer length of time seeing some wear but at this rate the machine will look overly worn in just a few months. Some people posting seem annoyed that these gripes exist but if they purchased a new car or home and the paint started coming off they would all go balistic. Yes a visor is not a car or home but it is still something we spend our hard earned money on and expect to last and wear well. If we do not let the manufacturer know of these issues, then we will allow the quality standards to decline for future products.

It's coming off on mine, in places where the most rubbing occurs.

They know. I've read they check this forum out especially (couldn't be because we're all so vocal, could it?). I agree a solid color molded plastic would have been MUCH better than a paint job just in terms of resale value. The people buying the Prism or the Platinum are obviously leading the curve a bit, and as such are going to want to sell it more quickly when Handspring announces a new product. Any paint job is going to show wear quite a bit more than color that goes all the way through. Why couldn't they use the same molded plastic that's on the cradle? I haven't noticed any wear on my hotsync cradle and it seems to be dyed plastic.
