-- A newbie question about HotSynching (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=3135)
I'm brand new in the world of hand-helds, and chose Visor as my entry machine. So far, so good.
But I can't find in the manual a statement about what happens with a HotSynch. My basic question is what overrides what? And then I have the usual further questions such as: what if there have been changes on both my Visor and my desktop - does one win? do both changes get made (if compatible)?
I've found the customizing screen, of course, and know I can dictate one as winner. But is there a hidden default?
Really what I'm asking is for advice about the most sensible way to configure things. Any help appreciated.

I personally just chose the default. The way I look at it is if I'm going to do text editing on my computer for my visor, first I'll sync it so both have the same info, and then I edit. I think the default choice for install changes the desktop if the handheld's changes are more recent, and the visor if the desktop changes are newer.
Hope this helps!

Go to The Hunger Site and help eliminate hunger!
All you have to do is click one button! No catch, no personal information requested!!
Go To The Rain Forest Site!
Please go to each once a day! Every day!
I don't know about every section, but if I change a memo on both the visor and desktop, I'm left with both on my screen. Then I have to decide which to delete or edit.

If you change a record on the Handheld OR the Desktop then HotSync recognizes this and the newer record wins.
If you change the same record on both Handheld and Desktop then Hotsync duplicates the record on both platforms and puts a message on the screen and in the HotSync log indicating which record was duplicated. You then need to delete one of the records manually.
Intellisync (www.pumatech.com) has field based synchronization. You can change different fields in the same record on the Handheld and Desktop and it will incorporate both changes no problem. If you change the same field on both it will pop up a message during synchronization asking which record should "win".
PocketMirror version 3 beta has similar capability.

Thanks, everyone, for really helpful answers. I think I've grasped it well enough to thrash around for a bit. It's great to have a responsive forum like this.
Cheers
