Whenever I customize my Memopad and/or Address Book hotsync options to 'Handheld overwrites Desktop', I get a message that alerts me that "File link categories will not be updated for this hotsynch option". What does that mean?

And what does the 'System' hotsync conduit control? I never know how I should have it set, so I now keep it set to 'Do Nothing'...

Re: File link categories will not be updated for this HotSync option"....

If you created a file link (an option to allow you to import Address Book and MemoPad information from an external data source), one of the steps in the creation is to create and/or designate a category for the imported data.

If file link is active, the imported data will be stored in your Visor's Address Book or MemoPad in that category you created or designated.

With all of that said, when you change the HotSync actions for the Address Book and MemoPad, the HotSync Manager is just alerting you that any changed made to a file link-created/modified category will not be updated on the other device (handheld or desktop).

If you're interested in how to create a file link, ss mentioned in the Visor's User Guide, see the Palm Desktop Online Help (I'll add: you can also get that same info from the HotSync Manager online help).

Re: System conduit. According to the online help:

quote:

System conduit: Specifies how to update data for handheld software that does not have its own conduit, including Graffiti ShortCuts.

FWIW. The default, out of the box installation of the HS Manager puts the System conduit to "Handheld Overwrites Desktop".
