-- Anyone have a CONSISTENTLY WORKING solution to HotSync USB problems? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2532)
Topic line says it all. I'm getting tired of running down the list "soft reset, test, reset computer, test, check USB plug, test"
garbage.
I want a solution for this USB hotsync problem that CONSISTENTLY works (short of asking for a new cradle, because the thing DOES work from time to time)
If you are running Hackmaster and Hacks, disable all Hacks. The reset your Visor. This did the trick for me. Try syncing and using your Visor w/o Hacks for a week. Then re-install Hackmaster and *one* Hack. If it works for a week or so, you can add another Hack. I think, often a Hack is causing the problems but I am not sure which one. Currently I am gradually re-installing my Hacks to figure out what caused my problems.
But maybe I am wrong and your unit and/or cradle is the culprit.
Anybody else any suggestions?
I have not had any problems hotsyncing either USB or serial (home and work). I am running the following hacks: Linker, DiddleBug ScreenCap, LightHack, NoStreakHack, TrekSoundsHack.
I have about 3 megs free.

I've been disabling the hacks, but usually after the first hotsync fails. I'll try disabling and then doing a soft reset before a hotsync attempt and see what happens.
I was just very frustrated with it, as I usually sync when I'm heading home from work and the last thing i want to do is fiddle around with the computer...
FWIW, during the last couple of weeks I have had more and more trouble syncing my Visor. I finally found the real problem. It wasn't the Visor, it was the cradle. I am not sure why, but my Visor sits in the cradle to loosely and isn't making good contact with the pins. As I said, this wasn't a problem in the beginning, so I think that the wear of putting my Visor in the cradle has caused things to loosen up.
The solution I have found is to either hold the Visor down during HotSync (a real pain) or use a rubber band to hold the Visor in. Since I have started doing this I have had no problems.
If you haven't been able to hotsync at all, I wonder if you may need to edit your registry. I don't have the exact procedure on hand, but search this forum for REGEDIT - you'll find it. It worked for me the first time and I've read it's worked for many others! Good luck...
