-- Change the Prism Contrast and Flicker/Shimmer NO MORE!!! Thank you, SG! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11373)

Did anyone try this and discover that their contrast was ALREADY set to 1/3 from the left? That's what I found.

Which probably explains why I'd never seen the shimmer problem....

Yep, that's where mine was set - right about under the "s" in "Adjust."

Those of you that were having shimmer problems: where was the contrast slider when you first opened it?

Posted by Brianp on 02-01-2001 08:35 PM:

My slider was way over on the right - about at the "t" in "Brightness." I couldn't believe the difference ;-).

When I first read this, it seemed like "voodoo" hooey. I did not believe it til I tried it. Very cool, though.

I'm a little irritated at Handspring, and they ought to be irritated with themselves. Remember all those people that had something like 5 Prisms on hand (all at HS expense) and were trying to figure out which one to keep. All that shipping has got to get at least a bit expensive... what a blunder, IMO.

Now I'm shimmer free...

Brian

Handspring owe you big time.

YOU THE MAN!
Someone should send this thread to Handspring. They need to compensate you for the Million phone calls they wont be getting. If nothing else Handspring should give you a free Prism, but you must already have one. So they should give you a V-Phone to go with it. In any case they owe you. So I am sending this note with links to them.
Thank you so much,
Flicker Gone, Dafydd

PS Anyone else want to get on the "Handspring Owes SG" Bandwagon the link is:

Thumbs up

This is the funniest threat I have read in a long time!

"stumbled" across this?

Pretty cool, but I have my doubts that SG simply "stumbled" across this. It's possible, but improbable. My bet is on one of the said "developers" or other such person leaked the info either directly or indirectly to SG.

Wink Flicker, shmicker!

You know, I didn't even know I had a flicker/shimmer problem until trying the "SG Maneuver" and seeing how fast things cleared up. It looked like it tweaked the scan rate or something -- it now looks less like I'm looking at a television screen on television, you know? Faint, but it was there... and now it's gone!

My slider, BTW, was at the direct midpoint. About 1/3 to the left seems about perfect. Even my eyemodule display looks better (though I doubt it helps the actual pictures saved).

Very strange that this was hidden like that. Almost any screen I can think of lets you set brightness and contrast...

But I'm still a'lovin' Handspring. Whacked though they might be.

SG,
Thanks for fixing the Flux Capacitor in your DeLorean and going back 97 years to solve the flicker/shimmer problem.
"Wait a minute doc, are you telling me, you built a time machine, out of a DeLorean?"

Wink

Launch Em 3.0 (Beta) has this option in its options.

I know that one of the gadgets says "brightness-contrast" but I couldn't get it to change contrast. Also, I didn't see a contrast setting under options. What am I missing?
thanks

Posted by Brajesh108 on 02-02-2001 06:36 PM:

Where does Launch'Em 3beta have the contrast in it's options? I see the screen depth, but this is not the same thing. Do you mean some other setting I have missed?

Lightbulb How are YOU doing, Now.

You can be sure that handspring knows. A key example of the weird datebook effect is the templet feature in datebook plus that stores all templets on January 1, 2020.
I called handspring (on their tab) unfortunatly neither the salesman nor the tech support had any idea (although the tech support guy said he read visor central). Twice I was encourage to touch the little circle on the bottom left of my graffiti area.
Glad I'm not the one who paid for that call.

Lightbulb One possible answer...

One possible reason that Handspring was not aware of the ability to adjust the contrast could be that this feature is an imbedded Palm OS 3.5 feature. Since Handspring did not develope the OS, they may no even know that the "SG Maneuver" ever existed.

Where di SG go?

OK. It works. And the puzzle continues. The only one that can give a conclusive answer is SG.
So;
"SG where are you?"

My theory is he works for HandSpring. They found this solution and he posted it as a normal user so that we would find out about it but they would not have to admit to anything. Now the main problem is fixed , get less calls on the problem and they still look good. Yea yea thats it

Hey guys, I tried the "SG maneouver" and set a Palm IIIc to Jan 1st 1904 to see if the Prism trick works with the Palm IIIc.

Well, it didn't work on the Palm IIIc.

This means that this hidden feature is only available on the Visor Prism and is NOT a feature of OS3.5 in general.

you can change the contrast by just holding down the power button you dont have to change the time as mentioned above

Posted by EricG on 02-05-2001 09:13 PM:

That only adjusts the brightness not the contrast.

Talking Super Tip

WOW this is great, I had my first Prism where the screen was great but had a problem with something else so it was sent back and I recived a exchange unit well actually I got 9 exchange unit's before I got one that worked right but all the replacements had the crappy lines in the screen and handspring said its normal so live with it or send it back for a refund. The tip got rid of all the lines and the screen is now awsome looking, Why in the world doesnt handspring tech support know about this, Hey maybe you should sell the info to them hehehehehe

Talking Info on tip

To the person who posted before me who said "it only adjusts the brightness not the contrast" I have to say you are wrong but didnt know it, You see when you do the trick and hold the power button after the date change it will say brightness on the screen but actually it is the contrast and the more you move it to the left where it shows dark the better the screen gets its a reverse efect sort of.
