-- Modem hookup to headset end??? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=8529)
HI,
Here's my question. I bought I use my modem (springport) to recieve email from clients. A lot of times I am in offices where I can not easly find a phone plug. But there is always the one going from the base of the phone to the headset? Understand what I mean? Because the one from the wall jack to the base is not the standard size. But I can't get the modem to dial out...
Anyone got a sudgestion?
Thanx
Max

The Answer
Max and the VC Community,
What you are looking for is called a coupler, you plug one end into the modem and the other is held up to the headset. It's available from igo.com, but it's expensive. ($129) - Here's the link. http://www.igo.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...mp;search_cat=#
Good luck and enjoy, please post your comments.

I'm not sure but I don't think you want to plug your modem into those, I think it could damage to it. If the phone plug is the wrong size that means it's probably a digital phone line and not analog. From what I've heard they have a lot more current running through them and can damage your modem.

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?
i remember reading somewhere (the manual that came with the handspring modem?) that mentioned digital phone lines. the handspring modem will emit multiple beeps if plugged into a digital phone line to tell you NOT to use that line.
pretty neat eh?

Stealth-Mod.
Sorry Max, there is not much that will work here besides Mikes (acoustic) coupler. The handset only carries the analog signal to and from the speaker and microphone.

There are digital-to-analog converters (aka PBX adapters). I've successfully used products from - http://www.konexx.com/ I'm attracted by the convenience of their AutoSet unit; but, I'll probably wait for the power brick to die on my existing unit (an ancestor to their Office Konnector). If the AutoSet works as advertised, it is worth the price. Messing with switch settings is a royal PITA, and it gives you optional wall-wort freedom! If you'd like to utilize pay phones, the (much) bulkier Koupler is a better choice - it should work with almost anything.
For an alternate source, see - http://www.connectglobally.com
A cursory search found the following site, that gives a little background on connectivity issues - http://www.walkabouttravelgear.com/modem.htm

No, you cannot connect the handset connector to the modem and use it. See my previous reply. Mikes reply was refering to using the acoustic coupler attached mechanicly, not electrically, to the handset which is the only way to connect, without having an adapter for the phone line into the phone, to your modem. (what everybody else is talking about)

Well...Thanx
Well Folks,
Thank you for the info. I guess it would be cool if you could manualy dial from the phone and then just hit connect.
Maybe later on...
