Question Datebk4 & Platinum

HI

I've just received a Visor Platinum, previously had a Palm IIIe. I use Datebk 4.

I'm having a problem with Floating Events they all appear on todays date.

Also is there anyway to mask/hide the Datebook+ Icon?

Thanks
Kenny

Floats appear on the current day unless they are dated in the future. They "float" to today until checked as complete. From the DateBk4 manual:

quote:
A floating event is a bit like an UnDated Todo in that it has has no due date. However, it can be scheduled on an advance date, but once today catches up to it, it then "floats" forwards day by day until checked off.

There are some apps that can hide icons... try searching at PalmGear. I just created a category called Misc Apps where I stick all the things I hardly or never use.

Thanks for the reply.

All of my completed floats from the past 2 years all appear on todays date.

I've done some investigating and apparently this is a problem with Datebk4, Datebk + & Visors.

I followed the advice at Datebk 4's site and if I at any point I open Datebk + all of my completed to do's appear on todays date. Even though I went through all of them to return them to their original dates.

I only got caught once since I have a backup spring board & the second time I corrected the dates I backed everything up to my module.

I've also tried to install a file from Datebk4 that hides Datebk + but that only works with Visors running 3.1

Anybody had similar problems?

Thanks
Kenny

This is a known issue with Visors and Datebook4.

Never run Datebook+ if you use Datebk4.

Unfortunately, there is no way to remove Datebook+, since it's in ROM. Also, any fix for the problem would be in Datebook+, but since it's in ROM, you can't update it.

Perhaps a patch could be written that would stop Datebook+ from being run at all?

Make sure you're running the latest version of DateBk4 (4.0d) as it is supposed to exist peacefully with Datebook+. According to the DateBk4 FAQ:

quote:
I'm getting duplicated Alarms, why?

After a hotsync or reset, the built-in datebook application is run by the palm OS to reset its alarms. Normally this is not a problem as DateBk4 will override the Datebook alarms. However, if the next alarm was entered on the desktop, the datebook application will sound its alarm and DateBk4 will not be aware that this has happened. To avoid duplicate alarms, just make sure that you run DateBk4 immediately after you do a hotsync.

If you have a Handspring Visor, you may be getting duplicated alarms from the Datebook+ application as versions of DateBk4 prior to V-4.0d did not know about that application. If you are have a Visor Deluxe or other Visor running OS 3.1H, you can solve this problem easily by installing the Dtbkplusstub.prc application in the DateBk4.zip archive and that will completely silence the DateBook+ application. Do not install this stub with Visors running OS 3.5 or later (Prism, Platinum, Edge, etc.) as it will have no effect.

If you have a Visor Platinum or Prism, you will need to make sure you are running at LEAST V-4.0d of DateBk4 as earlier versions did not know about DateBook+ and would not silence its alarms separately. You will still need to run DateBk4 after every hotsync.

Unfortunately, this only fixes a problem with duplicate alarms. Before that version, on Visors that couldn't use the Datebkstub, PalmOS and Datebk4 would handle alarms at the same time, resulting in an annoying double alarm for each alarm event.

Even with this fix, Datebook+ will still move all floats to today, so don't ever, ever run Datebook+ once you start using Datebk4.

There's a setting under More Preferences to "Hide Completed Floats" in the Day and 2nd Weekly Views. Try enabling that...
