Hi,

I want to make an IR PPP connection to my Win2k and become part of a network (IrDA). Unfortunately there are no details in the IRLink user guide.
I have installed a Tekram IR-Receiver IR210 on Win2k and IRLink 1.5 on my Handspring Visor deluxe.
When I try to get a connection to Win2k in QuickLaunch Netpanel I always get the error 0x0501.
The network configuration on my visor is:
service: Windows RAS
user: admin (I don't know if I have to give a user name)
password: ****
telephone: 0 (why is this entry necessary ? There is no telephone connection, but IR)

I have assigned an ip-adress to my visor (192.168.0.40), my Win2k pc (192.168.0.32).
On Win2K incoming calls in network environment are installed.
When I try to get the connection (QuickLaunch Netpanel), there is the following output on my visor:
IRLink1.5
Whlt Windows RAS
Versucht erneut
Whlt Windows RAS
Fehler: (0x0501)

The Win2k pc shows an infrared link icon on the lower right corner while a connection attempt is made.
I don't know if there is something wrong on the win2k side (RAS) or on my visor.

Unhappy

There are supposed to be issues preventing local IR hotsyncs under Windows 2000. See the following thread - http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...TML/000170.html

and the following Microsoft link - http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/infr...OMM.htm#Virtual

What I find interesting is that MS claims that PPP and IrDA networking is possible, but that it is only possible via the IrNET protocol. However, a search for "IrNET" in the Microsoft's on-line KnowledgeBase comes up dry. Not surprisingly, there is much more information about IrNET on various Linux sites. Also, it seems that IrNET is not yet a recognized by the IrDA standard. So. Until someone writes sync software supporting IrNET, I doubt local IR hot syncs under Windows 2000 will be possible.

Anyway, if anyone has found a way around this problem, please share the solution with the rest of us.
