Which version of blazer do you use? Blazer v1.1 comes with the module, but I saw that 2.0 is available. v1.1 seem to be showing me primarily text.

I use Blazer v1.1 and it displays graphics. Go to the Options menu, tap Preferences, and set the images preference. There are a variety of settings ranging from No Images to 2bit, 4bit, 16bit grayscale (or color graphics if you have a Prism). The more shades of gray or color you add the longer it'll take your pages to load.

or you could BUY it on EBAY for $48.!!

I looked on EBAY for a GSM Visorphone module, and found this link for the SPRINT module for sale for $48.

I sent a note to the seller:

and got this response:

I'm a reseller and I own my own company. If selling a
product is unethical then I'm sorry. This is my day
job and I take it very seriously. I appreciate your
opinion but I don't share your view.

Yeah, there's a glut of these things on ebay now. I feel for the person who bid 69.00 for one before Handspring started giving them away. IMHO, I don't think it's really unethical to try to sell them for a profit. That's the American Way, after all. But, I don't think this guy will get his $47.99, not when there's probably a dozen more starting at $0.01!

I just can't believe that Handspring is giving these things away! I've wanted one for SO long, ever since I returned my VisorPhone because the Cingular service was so sucky. I almost hit the "Place Order" button a couple of times, but then decided I would wait until they were selling them for $100.00 or less. I never dreamed I'd get one for FREE!!! WOOT!! I just hope the Sprint service is good in my area. (Sacramento, Ca.)

They're delivering! Just received confirmation that my module has shipped, and got the waybill # for Airborne Express (though I wish they would have had FedEx or UPS ship options, I'm not quite as confident in Airborne Express, especially when delivering to an apartment...)

I think you were silly to suggest there was anything unethical about the posting. There are still plenty of places on the web that will sell you a VDX for $200. It ain't unethical....its capitalism...Caveat Emptor!

eBay sellers can list whatever they want at whatever price they want. Whether they'll sell it or not, that's the question. If he wants to sell it at $45, and people want to buy it, that's up to them... there is absolutely nothing unethical about it. As a seller on eBay myself, I would have the same attitude... basically, no one is making you buy his product, so if you want to get it for free at Handspring, go for it, if you want to buy it from him, go for it. Just because store A sells something at half the price of store B, doesn't mean that store B is being unethical. It's just business! As Keefer Lucas said, "Caveat Emptor" and "Capitalism" !

It's interesting to see how "ware" the buyers are. I just checked on eBay: 68 sellers... not a single bid. Not one.

Buyers know about capitalism, too!

Question Digital Link and Blazer 2.0

I'm also interested in knowing if by purchasing the module you qualify for a free upgrade to Blazer 2.0 and if so where you can get it. I have Verizon service and as far as I know there is no way to use the Digital Link with it, but I'd buy the module if it allowed me to get Blazer 2.0 for the cost of shipping.

Howabout the keypad doohickey?

I have seen a keypad doohickey that the visor phone can plug into when you need some other Springboard module in your visor. Does this Sprint version work with that keypad?

Yeah, I've seen that Kensington keypad thing, too, and I had the same question. My guess is that it would work. I've used both modules and the interface is virtually identical, which leads me to believe that the hardware buttons on the keypad would probably be mapped to the same keydown events in the software.

From the pictures, those little keypads aren't exactly the pinnacle of high-tech styling, but if you use your Visor as your main phone and need to have a different module in it for an extended period, I guess it could be handy. If you're not interested in the Visor and just want a Sprint PCS phone, I don't know that it would be worth the $69 price for the keypad.

Here's the link for those who are interested: Kensington Visorphone Keypad

Thanks. I will keep that keypad in mind.

I got an email yesterday saying that mine had shipped. I guess I am not quite the capitalist or packrat that others are. I only ordered one. I use Verizon and really don't want to have to deal with Sprint, but I thought it would be fun to have one, and maybe it will even work for 911 calls (they are supposed to be free on cell phones and not require activation).

You get some extra goodies with this free digital link.

For example, the digital link comes with a travel charger, but you need to have the module plugged into the visor to charge it, because the charger connects to the bottom of the visor. The charger will also charge the visor batteries, if the visor is a prism, edge, or pro. So, you're getting a free visor travel charger.

You also get a free Plantronics M120 headset.

And, you get a free battery. I don't know if the battery can be exchanged with the Visorphone, but I've heard a rumor that it can.

I ordered two, and they showed up yesterday. I went to the Sprint store to activate one, and it turned out to be a bad unit. I'm SOOO glad I ordered two!

Treo shmeo.

Got It.

Recieved my unit on Friday. That big battery is 1200amh vs 685amh on the VP. Good for 300 hours stand by and 7hr of talking. Good deal for $8.50 YES It fits the VP PERFECT!!!

Re: Digital Link and Blazer 2.0

For those of you looking for Blazer 2.0......

When it first came out last October, it was being sold by Handango and Handspring for $20.

If you bought a Visorphone, it came with Blazer 1.1. Handspring offered Visorphone customers a free upgrade to Blazer 2.0 as a download from their website. When you went to their website for the free upgrade, you were asked for the serial number of your Visorphone, and then you could download the upgrade.

At the time, several Visorphone customers reported trouble getting their serial numbers verified. Many of them got emails from Handspring telling them to simply enter the serial numbers of their VISORS (not their Visorphones).

This solution was reported in several posts on this board last year.

As of about 15 minutes ago, the solution still works.

Could you provide a link? I have wandered all over HandSpring's site and cannot find a place to download blazer using your serial number. Thanks!

Never mind. I found it. It is not in the updates/patches area and is not linked to the Visor Phone software. The link is here.

As of the time of posting this message, entering your Visor serial number still works.

Ring not working?

I too recently took advantage of the free Sprint PCS phone module, getting one for my Visor Prism.

I activated the phone earlier today and have been busy playing around with it. While overall I like my Prism now being a mobile phone too, I seem to have run into a potential problem that I hope someone can help me with.

I've been testing it out by calling it from my home phone. Sometimes the Digital Link will ring and activate the phone software...other times (most of the time actually) it won't respond at all and I'm automatically tranferred to my voicemail.

At first I thought it was a software conflict issue, as I had Afterburner hack and BackdropGC installed. But even after a hard reset and just installing the Digital Link, the phone most of the time will not ring/be recognized when calling it.

Anyone else seeing this? Any ideas how to fix it? Do I have a defective unit?

I am at school now but I checked the tracking and it was delivered. I can't wait until i get home.

cursed airborne

Arrgh, Airborne attempted to deliver mine today while I wasn't home, but apparently they needed to deliver. I guess I can sign their notice slip and they will just leave it tomorrow. Hopefully someone doesn't rip it off from the front porch. Usually the other tenants in my building are nice enough to bring in any packages that they find outside, but I never can tell...

Ordered one and did recieve it. I must not be a capalist as I only ordered the one. I transfered my service to DL and every thing worked great. I do wish that 3G service was offered...as hotsync is really slow at the rated speed. And with the new Sprint unlimited plans for 3G....that would make me very happy.

Heres to Handspring for letting us cash poor tech-heads have some fun!!!
