-- Color Edge or M505? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=13353)

Question

Anyone hear any rumors about a color edge? I'm in the market for a new PDA and I am seriosly considering a Palm M505. However if a color edge is on the horizon I would be willing to wait.

I know that the Edge just came out but with Palm's announcement of a color unit with the form factor of a Palm V don't you think that Handspring would be wise to give color in an Edge form.

I'd also like to hear what people have to say about SD vs. Springboard. It seems that SD is better for memory and application cards but not as good to add functionality. Springboard allows addition of MP3, GPS, Phone, etc. but it seems that if one wants to add memory, backup, or ebooks SD's small form makes it more easier to carry these things around (they are smaller and don't require a large attachment to the back of the unit). I'm mostly interested in the memory and books.

Help...I'm confused.

P.S. I have a Vdx for over a year now and my biggest problem with it is that its too large to carry around in my pocket or my white coat (I'm a med student).

I think you just answered your own question. If your biggest problem is size/weight, then go with the m505. MMC/SD cards as you said give you extra memory in a smaller form factor too. If you want real peripherals, though, then you will have to give up form factor -- even with the m505, I bet that the only real peripherals for the next several months will be sled/clip-ons (like the new palmpix digital camera for m505). The mock-ups they showed for SD peripherals were cool looking, but unrealistic: consider how large the current m505 modem is. They think they are going to shrink this into a SD-sized device???? The spring-loaded connector that your phone line plugs into is bigger than a SD card!

Jdogg:

Your PDA isn't your problem...it's your coat! You need one with deeper pockets (like a resident/staff guy coat)! Hang on to the PDA until then, and then choose! My prism fits quite nicely in my pocket!

By the way...I have a friend named Jaysen here in Edmonton, and we call him JDogg too...he listens to Snoop doggy dog all the time...what's the reason for your nick??

Cheers,
-Stimp

SD memory is cheaper, as well.
