-- Stowaway TAB Key?? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=3685)

Question

O.K., I'm luvin' the folding keyboard big time - and my co-workers are in total awe . . . however, will someone please explain the TAB key?

I've tried pressing it at various spots on various screens and NOTHING HAPPENS. I've checked the manual and know to get a "real tab" (i.e., 5 spaces) I have to do an FN-Tab.

The manual says that just pressing the TAB key by itself will "tab forward through edit lines." Through "edit lines?" What does that mean?

Can someone enlighten me? Thanks.

I don't have my Stowaway yet (got delayed another day for some reason) but I think the Tab key probably functions similar to the way it works in Windows... that is, Tab moves to the next "field". For example, in Address Book, pressing Tab in the Last name: field moves the cursor to First name:.

Of course, I could just as well be wrong here...

I've found that I can't expect things like the tab key to work consistently in each and every application. In the add address mode the tab key allow you to move from one line to the next - no problem.

The tab key by itself is "next field." to insert a tab space use shift-tab.

Yep, I tried the TAB key in the address book and, sure enough, it lets me move field to field, but in my other apps it doesn't appear to do too much of anything.

James: When I do a SHFT+TAB in my SmartDoc, it doesn't do anything. I have to do a FN+TAB to get a real tab.

Still, I'd have to say this keyboard is a winner!

Ah yes, I should have looked at my Stowaway Review where I mentioned this:

"Also, the Tab key is actually the "Next field" key, allowing you to jump to the next
entry field in applications like AddressBook. To insert a tab while typing, press Fn+Tab."
