Hi All,
I finally got my Stowaway. You powerusers probably all have great ideas about increasing the functionality (i.e. I'm already tired of hitting function-tab just to tab). Please tell us all what kind of tricks you have come up with so that we will never have to take the stylus out of the silo again!

Question

Well, I hope more people write in this post because I have more questions than hints. Here I go:

1.What is that blue character on the Cmd key? When do you use it?

2.After you press Fn + Menu. Is there a way to move to the other menus on the right or to select something from the menu without a Stylus?

3.Has anybody broken or cracked any parts of the Stowaway keyboard?

4.Is there a way to do an auto scroll with it?

I guess that might be it for today...

Thanks a lot people, I guess I would be licking my shoulder if you guys were not here...

Al

Couldn't answer all your questions, here's what I could find with my own Targus Stowaway (TS):

1.What is that blue character on the Cmd key? When do you use it?

That's the shortcut key. Use it in conjunction with "Fn" and you get that "scripted l" and will be able to type shortcuts like "ds" for date stamp (types in today's date for you).

2.After you press Fn + Menu. Is there a way to move to the other menus on the right or to select something from the menu without a Stylus?

Tried but couldn't figure that one out either. Help!

3.Has anybody broken or cracked any parts of the Stowaway keyboard?

The metal casing is rather thin or weak and dents easily. If you just toss the TS into your knapsack with other hard objects in there, it'll get pockmarked. The blackpaint wears also and will reveal the bare metal abraded by friction.

4.Is there a way to do an auto scroll with it?

Haven't found anything like that on the TS per se... Applications like TealDoc have that feature, and works while on the TS, maybe it's third-party specific.

At any rate, I'm happy with the TS because it's taken my use of the Visor to the next level or another dimension... It's really great to respond to e-mails, and write papers, with such a small package and at places where I like to hangout. No longer chained to the desktop when having the interest respond to e-mails.

My only suggestion after using the Stowaway for a while is to forget about spell-checking until you transfer from the Palm Desktop software to Word. Just type away!

By the way, I've noted that the "Notepad" program is limited in its maximum size. Is another program out there that could do the same without the size limitations?

Regarding the menus, I remember reading on a newsgroup somewhere a message posted by Think Outside that said something along the lines of: "The Stowaway Keyboard only emulates graffiti strokes, so therefore there is no way to navigate PalmOS menus" (not exact quote). Also, regarding the memopad, pedit is absolutely the BEST editor out there. I won't even begin to describe all the features...perhaps it has even more than Datebk4! :P But anyway, it will break the 4k barrier (you need a special version of pedit called pedit32). But I guess the best part of pedit is Paul (the author)'s continuous support. I recieve an email from him every day or two announcing new versions, etc. I have also signed up to be a beta tester (if you've registered, its really easy to sign up), and I get a new version practically any day. Ok, enough. Go get it and see for yourself

Question

I use my Visor and stowaway in class to take notes. And there is nothing more anoying than to reach to hit the return, and to accidently hit one of those buttons just to the right of the "enter" key for the phone directory, or date book, or what have you.

It usualy takes me a few seconds to go back into the doc editor. Is there anyway to disable those shortcut keys?

I'm not real hopeful, I just thouoght I would ask.

Dave
