Hotsyncing old to new, first attempt fails

I just bought a new Palm device. First attempt to hotsync it to my previous settings wiped out whatever good functions it had, and I had to reset it.

I need to hotsync only the datebook, memo, address book.

How do I do it?

Attempting to install only the '.dat' files found in the user folder only prompted the 'file not supported' message and the info did not appear.

In your computer, rename your C:\Palm\(your user name)\Backup file to something else, like Backupold. Go into HotSync Manager and change the System conduit to Do Nothing. Hard-reset your new Palm, then HotSync. Your datebook, addresses, memos, and To Do items will be loaded on the new Palm but your system preferences and add-on programs will not be.

You can then install your add-on programs one at a time so you can check for compatibility.
