Want a better deal? Amazon has it for $279.99 now. Pricematch it at staples.com, then use a $40 off $200 coupon code. I just got one for $239.99 plus tax.

How did you pricematch at staples? Was it online or at a real store? Couldn't find the option on their site.

Order it from Staples online, or call the number, give them the coupon number and ask for the price match, no driving at all. Shipping is free too on orders over $50, and no tax.

No Staples near you?

Use the on-line site to find the phone numbers of nearby stores and call them- they will ship (although it might take a manager ot figure out how). They also ship quick and cheap!

I found this out when they were clearing out the Handspring Modem's so cheap- no Staples near me (in Nebraska), but one of the nearby stores did an inventory check for me over the phone, found them in Tennessee. I looked up Tennesssee, called them, spoke to a manager, and had it shipped out quickly and cheaply!

Staples has some flaws (training for floor staff, for example), but they can also be helpful in a very competitive market.

Why no tax? They do charge tax on all orders...
And still - is there a way to do the price matching online? (I'm in Israel, but would like to purchase one and have it sent to someone in the US to bring me).

Staples charge tax in 48 states. I paid around $20 tax on my order.
As for above question, call staples and tell them to check amazon's prices. Staples CSR will pricematch it.

Do what I've done -- Open one of the many free checking accounts (Washington Mutual offers one without any requirements, but their service sucks) and get a Visa/MC debit card. It's basically an ATM card that works as a credit card.

Important: Make sure that the account is set up to deny charges if there isn't enough money in the account to cover them!

This way you don't have to qualify for a traditional credit card, but you can still buy things online. When you don't have any more money, you can't buy anything more.

As for being embarrassed, don't be. The people at the store are being paid to answer your questions and do whatever they need to do to sell you stuff. If they aren't helpful, simply ask for a manager and explain to the manager what you want and why the other person wasn't helpful. A good manager will want to know because he wants to sell lots of stuff and if his people aren't helping customers buy things, then he doesn't want to be paying them.

(p.s. I'm older than dirt, but my wife gives me an allowance -- She doesn't have to worry about what I spend, and I have an easy way to make sure I haven't spent more than I should on toys and such. It works out great for both of us.)

IANAL, but I believe that it's not illegal for minors to have credit cards. A contract signed by a minor, however, is not necessarily binding, so most finance companies generally do not issue cards to minors unless a responsible adult agrees to be responsible. So unless a parent or guardian signs for it, a kid is unlikely to get a true credit card.

Debit cards work the opposite from credit cards. With a credit card, you buy something then pay for it later when the bill comes. With a debit card, you pay first (by putting money in your account) then buy later.
