-- Mobile Phones that work with Handspring Infrared (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=9252)
Hi,
The time has come the walrus said,
to talk of many things,
of cabbages and sealing wax,
of sailing ships and new mobile phones.
I'm looking to replace my older (read ancient) mobile
phone. Here in the UK mobile data is fairly well established, if very slow, 9.6 to 14.4 is the norm, though
we are going to GPRS and UMTS in the next few years.
I want to use my new handspring/mobile to access data services such as e-mail etc. What mobile phones do people
<B>know</B> work with the handspring. I know the Nokia 7110 does, but I'm not a fan of them. Any experience of the Erricson range or Siemens.
Thanks,
Rob
I've used an Ericsson T28 + DI28 infrared module, on Orange and Vodafone, both of which work quite well. Orange seems to be a bit faster. I was surprised at how robust the connection was: someone in the office picked up the Visor as it was connected by infrared and downloading some emails, handled it for a few seconds and put it back down, at which point it simply resumed the downloads.
I've also used an Ericsson R320s, although that was with a Palm Vx and the connection wasn't as good as with the T28. I haven't tested it with the Visor, but I'd guess it should work well.
Nokia 8290
Here in the US, I have a Nokia 8290 w/Voicestream. I'm very happy with the arrangement.
Er R320 with visor
how do you configure the visor (pref modem) to make it work with ericsson r320, does one have to change the string code?
thanks to anyone who can help

It depends on the version you have - the newer Visors (Prism & Platinum) support infrared communications. I'm not sure if the older ones do.
If you have one of the newer ones, you just need to create a new connection for an IR modem. For the older ones, you have to use IRLink or something similar to enable IR comms:

I hope this helps
