-- Is it possible to use USB with Win95 (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=1923)
Has anybody sucessfully connected and HotSynced using the USB cradle and Win 95?
In the Device Properties I get a message: "
Device Failure: Try changing the driver for this device. If that doesn't work see hardware documentation. (Code 2)"
Then it suggest to intall a new driver. Anybody has the driver? I cannot extract it from the Handspring CD. Any help would be appreciated. By the way the USB works fine at home with Win 98.
Nope. It flat out isn't. Many posts have appeared on this board attesting to that.
Best bets are to spring for (or "borrow") the Win98 upgrade or order a serial cradle, which is what I finally did after many fruitless attempts to make USB work.
Microsoft's own FAQs say Win95 is not equipped to run USB, despite the presence of any drivers.

I would argue that the best option, presuming it's within your means, is to upgrade to Win 98.
I don't advocate wholesale upgrades to Win 98, but when there is a reason for the upgrade I don't recommend against it.
Win 98 is as stable/unstable as Win 95, but it does have driver support for a lot more hardware than any version of Win 95.

Win95 WILL run USB devices provided you have Win95 version B. I'm not sure if the hotsync will work properly, but I know for a fact that other USB devices will
I had Win95B and was running an Intel USB camera with it. Recently I upgraded to Win98SE however. But if you have version B, and USB inputs it should work

Some USB devices do NOT work for Win 95B. The Visor cradle is one of them.
It's really irritating. I have CDs that run in Win95A that don't work in Win95B or 98. I have software that runs in Win95A/B but not 98. And USB doesn't work in A, sometimes works in B, and usually works in 98.
Hey EUG,
That's Windows for ya! We're all f*****
