Damn. Read your post and got optimistic. No such luck. Still getting the #4 error, here in Los Angeles

Except for getting a lousy signal on Monday in places I usually get good ones, I've been able to connect fine throughout LA, particularly the South Bay/LAX area. You're frustrated, I'm sure, especially since the reg 4 error [if I remember correctly] is just an IP reassignment - which requires contact w/ YY. I feel for you.

I was in LA last weekend and got the strongest connection ever. I was at the Airtel Hotel right next to the Van Nuys Airport. I also got a very good signal in the Cleveland airport on the way back home.

Is LA OK?

convbcuda and pusfarm, you've both given me a morsel of hope. My trip on Friday (for which I need my wireless connection) is to LA. If you got connectivity there, maybe I will too.

Yada not nada

I actually spoke with Eric Nix this morning and he helped reset my IP address. Now I am back up and going. I still have trouble getting the Yada browser to connect consistently, but things are going.

He told me that Yada and ATT had to work something out, and their systems are back up.

I still personally have mixed feelings as to whether YY will be around in another 2-3 months, but for now I am a loyal user.

There are beginning to be many more alternatives out there for CDPD service. I spoke to an ATT person and they told me of about 5 of them. But every day there seems to be more coming on board. I am not sure I know why since there will be a much faster service out there next year that will make CDPD as it is now obsolete. I guess these other providers want to get customers to switch over to this other services later.

How did you get in touch with him, i.e. how long before he called back? I tried e-mail a few days ago and left a message with the answering service first thing this morning. I'm sure a change to my IP setting would solve the problem.

Never mind

Just got the call from Eric :-) My problem was slightly different as I've got Verizon service and not AT&T. Apparently someone assigned by IP number to someone else on 4/5. But now that that's fixed - I'm all good to go. Great normal connection from the South Bay/LAX. Yay!!!!

Called YY this afternoon.

Got a phone call back 10 minutes later. Eric on the line.

Verizon seems to be the culprit, we reassigned to an AT&T IP address, I was up within seconds. Hmm, just to think I was going to call Verizon for direct service.

Again, I am very happy to have service from YY (since I have become numb to the Fatal Exceptions)

Yada 4.0

BTW, Eric told me that they were probably going to upload the flash version of 4.0 tonite, so that you could replace the version on the Minstrel

I've had pretty good luck with connections [except for the recent problems]. When I go someplace in the LA area for the first time [with the Minstrel] I usually check to see it I can get a connection. Roughly 9 out of 10 times I can get a good enough connection. I must warn you, however, that I usually use a cellphone antenna - the stub doesn't usually cut it. I bought two of them and don't remember which one I'm using, but here are the Radio Shack details:

-17-212, PCS/Cellular Replacement Antenna for Sony CMB3200, CMB2200 and Qualcomm 2700 dual-band phones;

-17-209, PCS Phone Replacement Antenna for Samsung 1000 and 1900-series phones.

The longer of the two gives the better reception - no surprise, I guess - which is what I use.

Until I get my E&B case [sometime this year, hopefully!] I've been using the cheap Visor slip case. I put the antenna in "head first" [so that the screw base is sticking out] along the side and then slide the Prism in. The screw base is even with the Prism and is not too obnoxious.

If you're coming into LAX and don't have an antenna, there's a Radio Shack 2 minutes north of the airport on Sepulveda, 1/2 block north of Westchester Parkway.

Where can I find this case?

Angry Problem

I have called YY numerous times and left messages with the answering service. No one had called me back yet!
I hope to hear from Eric soon!!!

Reg Error 4

If you receive this error (Reg 4) you must call Yada Yada and have them reset your IP address. This is a problem with AT&T and not Yada Yada. The company is not going out of business.

Hooray!

I did get a call from Eric and within 1 minute, I am up & running again. Thank you to Eric.

Hallelujah!

Me too. Just called 1-800-yadayada and Eric answered the phone. I told him that he's a hero here on the discussion board. He reset my IP address (apparently he's been doing hundreds) and now I'm up and running too!
I'm VERY happy.
(P.S. He said the head of Yada has sent a message to Visorcentral today about the state of the company, but it probably hasn't been posted yet. He says they're still open for business. So news is coming...)

Re: Hallelujah!

Diane,

Did Eric happen to say why he is the only employee on the phones at YY? I can't imagine a company trying to operate with one guy doing all the tech support, etc., by himself!

Is it possible for someone who has changed their IP information to share the instructions with the group, so we don't all have to call in for assistance.

I've left a message, but haven't received a return call yet.

Thanks.

Here is what Eric did ...

I am in the Minneapolis/StPaul area (so my message may not apply to others who live out of state). The following steps are told by Eric (this morning) after snap the modem to the Visor (mine is a VPL):
1. Bring up the application menu, select Advanced -> Config:
IP address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (AT&T network)
2. Click Shutdown (wait for 1 minute or so)
3. Bring up the application menu, select Minstrel -> Reconnect.
4. Up & Running.

I am not sure what Eric did on his end (while I wait in step 2).

I hope that this helps.

Yada Yada must reset your IP before these steps will work. Doing only these steps without an IP reset will not resolve the problem.
