-- The Treo "Nazi" (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=41136)
WOW! 27 threads contain it!!
Ran a search for "Nazi".
Came up with 27 Threads that contain it! I think we need a "No Nazi" Nazi on the board to take care of this!
Usenet rules...
As I understand it, when anyone in a discusssion uses the word "Nazi," the thread is killed and the party using the word is considered to have lost the argument.
I don't think this applies to humorously-used wording along the lines of "soup nazi", though -- I'm not that familar with Usenet.

If someone's being "ripped apart" for making a negative statement, it may be the way it's delivered. I would guess based on the "N" commentary that perhaps the audience isn't always being thought of.
Since I don't follow Treo stuff (I don't have any interest in the units) I don't know for sure, tho.

I certainly AM NOT CONTROLLING YOUR SPEECH, it is not like i have gun to yoru head. Use it don't use it that is your choice, just as is my choice and the majority of those of use here to object. 12 million people died due to that word! Soemthing I will not forget!
I'm all for freedom of speech, but damn it, I'm getting really tired of the blatant personal attacks. If people can't conduct themselves like respectable human beings, then maybe they need to look for another forum to hang out at.
Simply put, since the early days of VisorCentral, and even now at TreoCentral:
PERSONAL ATTACKS OF ANY KIND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!!
Period!
End of discussion!

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?
Aren't you also tired of certain people hiijacking interesting threads with ridiculous trolls? And then having to close the thread when the predictable flame war ensures?
It seems to prefectly clear to me that there are a couple people here (at least) that have no real interest in discussing the Treo in any rational sense. They are just here to stir up trouble and cause arguements.
I must admit, I can get into a heated discussion fairly easily, but I don't EVER intend it to get heated. There's a difference.
How can you not expect personal attacks to be a result? People are getting frustrated that so much blatant trolling is tolerated, with no repercussions against the instigator.

I've been a regular of this board for a long time now, and one thing that I have noticed is the emergence of the "Treo Poo Poo Head".
(Let me preface this by saying that, 1. I am a Treo lover, I've had one for about a year and half and will never turn back. 2. I am waiting on pins and needles to get a GSM Treo 600. and 3. Against all rationale, I will probably be an early adopter.) That said:
I've noticed if you say anything negative about a Treo, half of this message board jumps on you and tears you apart. I noticed a previous post that railed against people posting negative experiences with a Treo. As I read this, I thought, "Are we only allowed to post positive thoughts?". Wouldn't this mislead people trying to get the whole story of the Treo? What about people who needed to research if this was the phone for them? None of this seems healthy in the least bit, quite dysfunctional if you ask me. The last time I checked, there were no rules as to what you could and couldn't post about the Treo.
Thanks for listening to my ramblings, and yes, I do expect to get "flamed" for my "flaming". Should be fun.

(And yes, I do feel the need to sign every one of my post [this is to whoever railed against that guy for signing his post])
Edit: Changed n#z@ to "Poo Poo Head", hope this makes some people happy.

What is the best way to communicate with the mods about trolling behavior?

Yes, I can sympathize with your position. It would not be a good situation for visitors to think that the mods were censoring their opinions out of hand. You don't want an "Us vs. Them" atmosphere, to be sure.
And I agree with your statements that people need to think before they hit the reply button. That can help a lot, and I will try and keep it in mind myself.
The main problem I see is that people cannot see the troll patterns until it's too late. Wherever there's passionate discussion, there's disagreement, so it takes a little while for someone to figure out that the person you're having a disagreement with has no intention of doing anything except being contrary in every thread they take part in. By the time you realize this, the troll has ruined the thread and moved onto the next victim(s). Rinse. Repeat.
There have been a number of threads where I've thought, "hey, this is an interesting subject", and then got partway through it and found that a troll has pretty much ruined it beyond any hope of recovery. Ick. To me, that seems like too high a price to pay for a lack of censorship. Some people will never "place nice" if they're just told to.
That said, I'm not sure what the metric would be to judge whether "enough is enough" from an individual. I would probably say that warning them individually first would certainly make an subsequent action much easier. I realize that takes valuable time, however.
I hope this doesn't sound like I'm saying "hey, you admins suck!" or anything like that. I can appreciate the dilemma you face. I hope it's taken in the spirit it was intended -- friendly discussion of the problem that I think is on a number of people's minds who frequent the forums. I haven't been here long though, and when it comes down to it, you can freely tell me to shut my cakehole if you wish.
Visorcentral.com was a nice place till the Treo came along and TreoCentral.com was created.. Wasn't there a study done on how cell phones affect your brain? Perhaps that has something to do with it .. ???
IanL, Visorcentral had trolls, but they were sorta fun and cute and cuddly, just ask Toby
, not like the jihads cause by trolls spilling over from TreoCentral these days ..

Don't blame the Treo!.
Please don't blame the Treo! While I agree that the advent of the Treo brought more interest to these forums, much of that from MS smartphone fans (non-Palm OS fans), I would rather have to ignore (and hope fellow forum members would ignore) the trolls. I would never own a non-Palm based smartphone, and the advent of the Treo (270 at the moment for me) has given me that great option. (But I'd never troll on an MS forum...) Getting back to the point of my post, please don't blame the Treo... You will eventually join the revolution! Even if you don't, the mods said they'd help patrol the trolls if we do some reporting to them. I know we all have a few members in mind. And before anyone flames me, I know that censoring a troll won't work, as they'd only create a new login, but maybe between that and us choosing to ignore them, they'll go away. Reminds me of a sign in my dentist's office: Ignore your teeth and they'll go away!
