Question Targus Stowaway Issue

Hi everyone

I have just bought the Targus Stowaway keyboard (fantastic gadget - jaws drop when people see it unfold! ), but I have come across an issue with its use. If I try to dial up to the Internet using IR to my mobile phone, I get an error message - Error:Serial: timeout. Could be bad cable or faulty Modem (0x0305). If I unplug the Visor (Prism) from the keyboard and re-try the connection, it works perfectly. BTW I'm using the Eudora email client & web browser at present (well, it was free, and I use Eudora on my PC at home, so sync-ing is easy)

Am I right in thinking that because the Visor is connected physically to another device, it overrides the Connection settings I have made, assuming that the device is going to be a modem? Is there a way around this problem, because it's a bit stupid having to connect the keyboard to type emails, and then unplug it again to dial out!

All ideas gratefully received!

Cheers

Jules

The keyboard uses the serial port.
I'm pretty sure IR communcations use the serial port as well.
There's only one serial port available to use.
Serial ports aren't designed to handle multiple devices trying to talk on them.

Er, that's a "no" then...

Thanks for your help. I guess I'll just keep unplugging...

Cheers

this just occurred to me.

instead of disconnecting the keyboard, try disabling the keyboard driver and see if that works.

type your emails, go to the keyboard driver and disable it, and then try dialing out. if that doesn't work, try turning your visor off and then on again after disabling the keyboard driver.
