backup module and 16 meg upgrade

Ok. I've bought the 16 meg base memory upgrade for Prism. I still have my 8 meg backup modules.

What happens when I backup and have 9 megs of data on the Prism and only 8 megs available on the backup module? Will it destroy the WHOLE backup or just leave some things out? Is there any way to know WHAT gets left out??

I have some utilities like Launch'em if that could be used to control backing up to the module.

Backup module makes an image of the ram(8 MB) by address. So I guess it'll back up first 8 MB. And if you try to restore from the module, it'll overwrite only first 8 MB.
Just an educated guess.
How does it feel to have 16 MB??

It feels great---the impetus actually was VisorPhone. I was using the Hagiwara 16 meg flash module and had plenty of space left on my Visor proper. But then add all the phone apps (about 1.6 megs) and my free space dwindled alarmingly. With the phone in the module bay, I was also less willing to be using the Flash as often so needed more space. This solves the problem!

Except that you now don't have truly reliable and complete backups via the module. While the module is great for those who don't sync to a desktop often (and have non-modified Visor's), it's no longer practical to those like yourself with a RAM upgrade. As far as I know, you can't dictate what goes where in RAM so you can't be sure that critical apps/data are being backed up.

My suggestion is to get a good desktop based backup solution (if you don't already have one) like BackupBuddy. Another option would be a CF module with a backup app or just the ability to copy everything to the CF card.

That was the only reason I hesitated in getting the ram upgrade in the first place. But since I do have a 16 meg flash Hagiwara, I figure I can backup manually in a pinch (help from File Mover).

Also, I do sync regularly except when I travel. When I do travel, I will have to make sure that I have an 8 meg module backed up at home and that non critical apps are moved to the Hagiwara. Complicated and annoying, but won't happen often.

It would be nice if Handspring just made a 16 meg Visor, wouldn't it with appropriate modules.

Here's a wrinkle I wonder if anyone could help with:

--So I now have my memory upgrade. The first backup I did with the 8 meg Handspring module, I made sure that I moved some data off of the Visor so I could get a full backup. In fact, I had only 6 megs on the Visor. The backup module--so I presume--then "sees" the whole 16 megs available and says "Won't be able to backup everything; do a partial?"

I say yes. After all, there are only 6 megs of DATA.

I presume that the data has been backed up and it didn't waste space backing up empty unusued Visor memory. What do you thinK?
