I'm aware that a lot of Visor users have had stress fractures in the plastic by the power button; I have too.
Yesterday I noticed that the whole strip had chipped off; I think it happened somewhere between Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon.
I put a piece of scotch tape by the gap to try to keep dust and whatever else out of my Visor; that's kind of a temporary solution though.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this bit o plastic chip off their Visor casing and what you did about it?
I imagine I could send it back to Handspring since it's under warranty, but it seems like a waste since there's nothing wrong with the computer itself, just the case.

Also does this seem common to any given color/model? I have an ice VDx.

I had it happen with two Ice VDxs. How do you carry it?

I used to use the included leather slipcase. I did drop it once. Shortly after I saw the second fracture I got a rubber "bumper" case.

The bumper case makes it a little too bulky to carry in a pocket, so I usually have it in my hand when I'm wandering around. I also generally leave the Visor in the case until I need to hotsync or use the springboard, after which I leave it out until I have to go somewhere.

the bit could have popped off at a friend's house when I took it out of the case to show it off to his stepson, but I didn't notice 'till Monday when I was Syncing.

YOU CAN SEND IT BACK EVEN IF THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED!!!
I just did this yesterday so I know it works. I have a blue VDX that had cracking near the power button and memopad button. I called Handspring Customer Service and told them what the problem was. I also told them that I knew that many returns had happened because of this problem and that I knew it was a manufacturing defect. Without any questions asked, they RMA'd the unit. They replaced the unit in less then 24 hours. I called yesterday at 2:00 pm PST and I just received the replacement this morning via fed ex.

BTW.... my warranty was expired by at least two months. they were even aware of this and still replaced my defective unit.

Hmmm...I'm wondering if it has something to do with carrying it in a pants pocket (although it should really be durable enough to do that).

If I'm going to get a replacement I'd rather it be because I actually need one.
However, I may call them next week to see if they'll send a replacement face. I've only had it since January so I may as well get a little use out of the warranty.

Good point. I generally carried it in the pocket of my winter coat, but once in a while in a pants pocket when wandering the halls.

Guess if I get a replacement face (see last post) I'll pay closer attention ...

I carried mine in my pants pocket nearly all the time. The main reason I sold mine and bought an Edge was that the Edge is durable enough to do it.

"Chill, man"....? What are we in the seventies again. Did you get the point of my statement? That's why I was "yelling". Everyone in this post as well as about 4 others on this subject keeps going back and forth as to will they replace it, won't they... I wanted to make a statement so that people knew it was replaceable even without the warranty. Sorry, if I ruined your "vibe", man.

You going to use the warranty? it's just cosmetic, man...

By the way... Handspring isn't going to just send you a faceplate. By sending you the face plate, you would have to open your unit thereby voiding the warranty. Likewise, they would never leave themselves open for more problems by allowing an end user to "refurbish" their product with their knowledge. They are going to give you a new one because it was a manufacturing defect... in other words... FAULTY WORKMANSHIP. They are going to cover their A$$ and make the end user happy. I didn't get one just because I wanted a new one, I got it because they realized that it was a mistake to use the materials they use in the first runs in manufacturing. But you already knew that, man

I found the chipped-off bit on the floor beside my computer when I shifted it last night. Some Bondini and my VDx is "whole" again.
