Hotmail changes making me feel blue. Ugh.
Has anyone with Hotmail noticed the recent changes? I HATE this new layout. I HATE THE BLUE! TOO MUCH BLUE (VC, I know that you're also up to making the site blue. Think twice)! I've been using Hotmail for FIVE YEARS and it just got bad. REAL BAD. Not just is EVERYTHING BLUE, but they made some other terrible changes. First of all, whenever you log in, it goes a "home" page, filled with junk. You have to click on "inbox" to get to your e-mail. That's all I want! E-MAIL! Also, it looks like all the print got smaller. WAHH! And all the e-mail messages are tightly up against the left side of the screen. IT IS GROSS! ALL THE BLUE IS ICKY!
Anyone agree with me?
P.S. Not all the changes are terrible. I like the new "quicklist".

I've been using it for about five years myself.
The worst part of the new changes is that I can longer seem to get my inbox in AvantGo. I've been using AvantGo to read my hotmail ever since I got my Visor, and now all of a sudden it won't work.
I did notice on one of they're pages that I could still check it if I was using a PocketPC. One more reason to complain about Micro$oft.

I can't stand it. They are making it look like MSN Explorer probabally in their .net effort. It is more complicated now and I don't like it.

I don't like the changes, either. But it's free. So it's tough to really complain about it.

i'm sure for a modest fee, they will provide you with an "improved" version that will be the old layout .. heh..
bill gates is an a-hole.
You really think Bill Gates had something to do with it? I wouldn't think he'd be wasting his time with making hotmail bad.

I like it.
I'm getting tired of people calling because Hotmail lost their password.

If you work tech support for more than three months, you go direct to heaven, do not pass go. I could never do it.
I wonder if Handspring has to answer dumb questions re: the palm os. I can't tell you how many times I've had people say "What do you mean, the menu button. There's no frickin menu button!"

Once upoin a time I worked for a media agency. In addition to my regular work I had to support clients with computer and data problems. For three years. 'taint fun.

I recently had to support someone via email. I had to asked twice for them to tell me which version of Windows they are running.
I finally get a response: "I can say for sure that we are using the Office 97 operating system."

Ooo, ooo, I have one.
A lady at work (a few years ago) was telling me about her brand new "Pentium computer with a 486 processor".
My favorite ones, though, are from when I worked for this little CLEC/cable TV company.
We shut one lady off for non-payment of her cable bill. She called up, yelling, because she just had to watch her line dancing. When she paid and we turned her back on, she complained that her cable didn't work. When the tech got out there, he found that she had unscrewed the wallplate, cut the coax, and fed that into the back of her TV through the ventilation holes, like we had magically shut her cable service off right at the wallplate.
This other lady called about her sky-high phone bill. It ended up being a bunch of 900 numbers at early hours in the morning. That was impossible (she tells me), neither her or her husband of six months would ever call one of those services. I told her that since she lived in an apartment building, unless one of her neighbors had cut a hole in the wall and tapped into her line, those calls came from her apartment, and she may want to talk to her husband about it, you know, just to see if he knew anything about it. She calls me back the next day, yelling and screaming about how I had ruined their marriage and if I didn't wipe the charges they were getting divorced, etc.
Cable TV customers were bad enough. I'll sell my kidneys and starve to death before I do computer tech support.

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?
Tech support -- there's nothing like it. I used to work first-line help desk for about 3 years, and it ain't fun.
The next big innovation in computers will be when vendors use built-in automatic backup. I don't believe anyone actually backs up their data (I know I don't
).
And please people, repeat after me. A Pocket PC is not a PalmPilot. ActiveSync is not HotSync. Sigh.
What pisses me off is that most of the error messages that people get aren't documented on Microsoft Technet anywhere. What pisses me off more are when people are rude to me on the phone. Like I'm going to help you ASAP after you gripe at me? Ha! Believe me, honey gets the PC fixed faster than vinegar.

I must've missed the "Send your loonies to Josh day" banner on my calendar today. I had one lady come in and tell me that she was my wife's cousin and an old lady across the street was my aunt. Another came in and told me to remove the all the government's spy software off her computer (her sister? called back to let us know what actually needed fixing). A third tried to set up a date with my mother - w/o having ever met her nor heard about her - out of the blue.
But wait! If you order now, you can have a plethora of phone-idiots at no extra charge!
I'd have had a busy day of pinball if I actually did put the idiots on hold. That scenario keeps sounding better all the time.
