Does anyone know if the Visor will automatically change the time or will we have to do this manually?

If this has been discussed before, please accept my apologies and point me to the right topic.

I do not think the PalmOS does DST automatically. I'm using a TimeSync utility that is part of BackupBuddy. There is something called DSTPanel that I think will take care of this for you. It can be found over at PalmGear.

It won't automatically adjust for DST, but just go into CityTime and it will ask if you want to adjust the system clock for DST.

Shouldn't the Visor switch to DST automatically? Screen sequence:
City Time>(Preferences)Options>Edit Cities...

When you go to the "Edit City..." screen for a particular city, there is a "Auto/Manual"
switch for DST. In the "Auto" position, you define when DST begins and ends.

Seattle is my "Home City", DST is set to "Auto" to begin on the "1st Sunday of April"
The problem is, it didn't automatically make
the adjustment. Screen sequence: Edit City...> i. "i" screen seems to indicate time should change automatically. Sorry about length of post. Thanks. Mike

So did it auto correct? Mine had a hard reset between the hours of 0130 and 0230 so I don't know if it did....

Same here.... even though City Time showed the little "star" that indicated that it was on Daylight Savings Time, and DST was set on "Auto" rather than "Manual" - I had to go in and manually change the time to Daylight Savings Time....

I made the change in Preferences (the Palm OS General Preferences), then everything was OK...

(so I guess the "automatic" part was turning on the little "star" indicator....)

from what I understand the 'automatic' part in the DST is, if you change the time from the preference option of your home city, the other four locations in the city time application will automatically change their time to reflect the DST change.

I too hoped that CityTime would adjust my DST. I can't believe that it did not!

On my PalmPilot, I used to use the free DaylightSavings Hack to adjust the time. This hack used to have a problem with the Visor but it has been upgraded since I last tested it. Is anyone using this hack on a Visor and did it change your time successfully?

quite the huge hoopla over something that happens twice a year and takes 3.46 seconds to fix in Prefs.

3.46 seconds, huh? Exactly - or is that rounded? I forgot to "time" myself changing the time. I know it's not a big deal, I just wanted to know-now I know.

I didn't realize this is such a huge problem. I live in Indiana, and we don't switch to Daylight Savings.

Personally, I never really understood why people would want to change _all_ of their clocks twice a year.

I just thought my Visor was smart enough to ignore DST in my case.

Indy, it's not as if we have a choice! I would prefer not to lose an hour, or mess with my clocks twice a year.

I agree that it takes no time at all. It's only a problem if you forget to change it and rely on the time to be correct. It would be nice to have it automatically do it.

Well, the PalmOS should be smart enough to do this if I want it to. Hell, every other computing device in my house did, and even my VCRs did. It's just suprising that a piece of hardware that does so much with time does not do this. What about leap day? That happens less often, and it knew about that...

You guys might want to check sunrise and sunset times. I think that the daylight savings times option changes them. Where I live Sunrise was 6:28 a.m. before daylight savings time and 7:27 a.m. after daylight savings time started. This is just a guess, but maybe that daylight savings time just affects the time of sunrise and sunset.

I asked about this to find out if my Visor/software was working correctly. It is no problem to make the switch. I appreciate the replies. Thanks Mike
