Question

Saw the post on Visor as office/pc replacement, and with my Stowaway I'm pretty much in the same happy boat.

The only problem is that it's difficult to access your data on any PC, e.g. at the university computer lab, where they probably won't have a cradle hooked up, and definitely won't appreciate you muckin' around behind the PC to hook up your travel serial cable. Even finding a hook-up for the modem isn't always easy.

I was thinking of how practical it is to write a paper on my Visor while eating lunch, but then how could I print it out or e-mail it to a professor afterwards? If I could get it onto a PC, I could probably have a diskette with me with a conversion to text or Word format, but how?

- Does a diskette adaptor/springboard exist for the Visor? I was thinking of something like the cassette adaptors for MP3 players or the diskette adaptors for flash cards /like digital cameras).
- Are there simpler software solutions to transfer data to a public PC w/o admin rights? I know that you can do it through a modem format, but it necessitates a little technical know-how.

Is it already possible to do this with flash cards and diskette adaptors? Even so, I was looking for a Springboard solution for everybody - since mostly only high-powered users (and HandEra users) use flash cards with their PDAs.

You can use Innopocket or Memplug. For transferring the data from visor to pc at school, you can just bring CF adapter or Smart media adapter for PC.

O reven better that bringing the adapter to plug into the computer, buy a diskette adapter that accepts the SM card into it, and then fits into a regular disk drive. Than way you will be able to use you're documents.

You're probably out of luck. Hardware-wise, the simplest solution is the above-mentioned FlashPath floppy disk adapter for Smartmedia cards plus the MemPlug. Unfortunately, the adapter requires a specialized floppy driver which would probably require admin privileges. Software-wise, the visor plus serial cradle/cable is more doable because it probably won't require admin privileges to use the software necessary to do the data transfer. If you're sly enough, you can feel the serial port on the back of the computer, determine the orientation of the port, and plug in the serial connection, all within 10-15 seconds.
