FYI... I am not ka"L"ahari.

I am, however, sooo happy. Mine is in ice blue. I'm already on my second set of batteries.
As for the screen, it's not as good as a palm v's lcd but close to palm III's. You can still see seperation between pixels.
Its the size of a palm III. The only thing that sucks is the weak stylus and the old-palmpilot pro-style up/down buttons.
My roommates think I'm weird, all I talk about is my visor. All I've done in the last few weeks is be on the net looking for visor news. I've also clogged up our phone lines with my daily calls to Handspring asking them about shipping dates, order status, color options, and whatnots, being on hold for 40 min to an hour, and my calls to my credit card to see if it has been charged.
Not to mention my repeated checks on Handspring website!! Hours!

bUT I dont care what they think!! I love it!
That's why I am in this forum because I know you guys would understand as you have been doing the same things as I have.

Why do you think the life span on your first set of batteries was so short? I've been reading postings that say a set of AAA's should last a couple of months. Not less than 24 hours!

The battery life suffered from me playing with my visor for hours.. I'm sure the battery consumption is good its just me that's killing it.

Question, it seem to be losing battery level when in the cradle. I thought maybe they would allow it to be turned on while in the cradle without losing battery charge like the pV. Is this normal?

I dont know anyone's palm lasting the 2 months battery life. Mine lasted a a week and a half at most. I downloaded a lot of apps, tried them out, kept or deleted them, and that used up a lot of bat life!
I was hoping my Visor can just sit in the cradle and stay off the bat..

The cradle provides no power to the Visor, so when it's sitting there in the cradle and it's on, you're using up the batteries. This is probably another reason that you're on your second set.

There are DIY charging cradles for Palm III, I think you can do the same for Visor.

In fact, I've heard that the Visor has the same issue as the Palm III's of DRAINING the batteries, even with the unit OFF, while sitting on the cradle. Reason being that if the unit is on the cradle a communication port is always open between the unit and the PC.

I think Tyler's right on this. Somehow Hawkins originally envisioned the cradle to be used only for syncing. The rest of the world, however, thought the cradle to be great place to keep the Pilot displayed in front of you at all times.

"The rest of the world", huh? Evidently I and all the Palm owners whose desks I've seen -- 3 of my housemates and a couple of my fellow employees -- are alien imposters. (I don't think I've ever seen anyone keep it in the cradle, but I wouldn't make assumptions about what the rest of the world does.)

I too, doubt the legitimacy of Ka"r"ahari.

Prove yourself. There must be something that came in the box (with your Visor) that nobody that hasn't gotten one yet would know about.

Perhaps the size/color of the warrantee card?
The number under the bar-code on the box?
The address on the "postage paid" registration card?

Something unique.

Kalahari, ask him(her?) a question that only a person that has one could answer.

That's a well known problem. Leave a Palm device in the cradle and the battery drains very quickly.

My doubts about Ka"r"ahari are based on his own statements, nothing else.

He started his life in this forum by choosing to impersonate someone else, and flamed the Visor.

I think some caution is warranted.

I have a request... can Ka"R"ahari change his handle so that we may be clear on who posts are coming from.

Alkaline batteries are not rechargeable. You need to change to NiMH or Lithium.

You probably need a Visor circuit diagram for the craddle and the power supply to work it out.

Hiphop: actually, you can recharge alkalines. Renewals are alkaline as well, I believe, although they are constructed somewhat differently if I remember. The problem is alkaline doesn't recharge all that well, or all that many times. NiMH or Li-ion is definitely the way to go.

I have yet to recieve my visor (even though it WAS ordered overnight, and they SAID it shipped friday, and I am only 25 bloody miles away from Freakmont (where the wharehouse is)) but I might have some insight to the battery problem. I used to have a Rio 300 (ya know the MP3 player), and I just recently upgraded to a Rio 500 (which uses USB, unlike the 300 which used the par port) and I uploaded a set of songs. only to watch my battery level (fresh batteries) drop. It seems that syncing data via USB (as opposed to other slower methods) uses more power.

But I could be wrong here <grin>
