I am looking at getting a MP3 module for my Visor Platinum. Can anyone tell me about their experiences with the SoundsGood module or the Innogear Minijam module and which one is better?

Personally, I prefer the Soundsgood, mostly because of its compactness (and because I have a major axe to grind w/ Innogear).

I would recommend the Sound Good unit for the following reasons:

1.- The small size of the unit.

2.- The 64 MB is enough as you can play around with the bit rates and get more than 50 songs at 64kbps. Don't worry about quality of the stream as your normal environment will affect the higher bit rates.

3.- The transfer of music from your computer to the Unit Via the GOOD desktop is awesome and beats hands down the Innogear and also the Windows CE units.

4.- Cost is even with the market.

5.- Customer Support is excellent.

I like my MiniJam

I chose the MiniJam because it is expandable to 128MB and has 2MB flash memory for other apps. I keep some games, Peanut Reader and book chapters right on the MiniJam primarily to listen to music and read while flying or waiting. The whole package works for me. It's expandable and multi-function.

When it was time for me to pick an mp3 player I went with the SoundsGood. Even though I gave up the extra 64 megs of the MiniJam, I gained the fastest transfer rate of any handheld mp3 player, a compact package, and the option of using the player standalone with the energy clip (which I should be picking up tomorrow :-)

At the time I ordered I had questions about Innogear's shipping times, and reports of some incompatibilities (which I believe have been resolved). I also wasn't sure about the availability of the extra 64mb cards. With the absense of the voice recorder option, the sluggish transfer rates & the larger size of the module, the MiniJam just didn't offer me a clear advantage. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the SoundsGood software update which should add additional capabilities.

SoundsGood is great!

I have never used the MiniJam but I got my SoundsGood two weeks ago.

1 Easy to use right out of the box
2 Quick transfers - if I had to wait on the MiniJam transfers I would probably have to kill myself
3 Great form factor - I would have to get a new case for the MiniJam
4 64 mb is fine, I wouldn't pay for more memory cards and wouldn't want the hassle of carrying them around.

Like I said, I have not used the MiniJam but you definitely cannot go wrong with the SoundsGood!

BTW, I emailed SonicBlue (formerly Diamond Multimedia) at the beginning of December and asked them if they were planning an mp3 springboard module. Their prompt reply was to check back with them at the beginning of the year. So if you are still debating, it might be worth waiting a little longer, you could possibly have a third module to compare.
