A month ago I ordered and then cancelled a Graphite Deluxe Visor. So guess what came a couple of days ago...yep, that's right. Anyway, I decided I might as well give it a try since I had 30 days to return. It looks good, nice fit, everything lined up. Then I tried using it. The Palm OS works "just like a Palm." but I noticed the Graffitti area had a scratchy feel when I used it(like it was pushing down on a slightly rough surface when I wrote on it...but only on the alphabet side. The numerical side felt like the old Palms (IIIx, V, etc.)...like writing on glass. The stylus seems to be fine so my question is: Is this characteristic of the Visor (i.e. a feature) or is it a problem I will regret. I would appreciate any feedback from Visor owners. Thanks.

Rub the graffiti area with your finger for about 5-8 seconds...whala!

That won't work. You have to clean the entire screen with Windex. Don't spay it on the screen, but on a paper towel. Once you've cleaned the screen thoroughly, it should "feel" much better.

Oh great! I already hear Bob Barker on TV reminding me to not forget to spay and neuter my new pet Visor ;-)

Okay, I tried both solutions with the following results and tentative conclusions:

Rubbing with the finger seemed to make writing much smoother with less drag.

Cleaning with window cleaner produced a cleaner screen with a REALLY rough feel on both sides of Graffitti.

Rubbing with the finger brought back a smoother feel.

So my non-technical conclusions are:
1)The finger introduces skin oils that lubricate the stylus point causing less drag and therefore less pressure on the screen. (But of course you do have an oily screen)

2)The window cleaner removes all such oils and makes the screen "stick" more easily to the stylus tip causing more pressure to be exerted when writing.

3)I've read other posts that indicate the Visor requires less pressure than the Palm on the touch screen. Maybe it's too much less.

4)My personal opinion (having used and liked the smoothness of the Palm screen) is that this will drive my screen scratch paranoia over the edge. I suppose the old Scotch tape ploy would make it less noticeable but I may have to pass on the Visor for now

Do any of you former Palm V or IIIx owners have any words of wisdom? Or is there an engineer in the house to set my mind at ease about the screen?

Carnuba wax works great and is protects the screen from scratches. I use clearview tape by Stockwell across the bottom of the screen, over the graffiti and silkscreen (menu, find, calculator, applications) area. Its the clearest tape I've ever (not)seen. If you already have scratches, turtle wax polishing compound works well to remove them (gently!).
