first Palm

As the company PC guru, I was given a Pilot 5000 by another branch manager for spending some time training his reps. Way cool.

Then bought a Palm III for $200 from a gal who won it (when they were $399)
Got a Platinum from better half this past Christmas!

When I started working at my own business as a second job I decided to get an organizer to track my expenses, mileage, etc. It was only through use that I found out how handy it was to have the calender and address book along for the ride. One day at Office Depot I saw a little 34kb Sharp electronic organizer for a whopping $7. I got it just because it seemed like a geeky-cool sort of thing to have, and the price was certainly right (little did I know how much money the path I had just started down would end up costing me). It only stored phone numbers (no addresses) and URLs/emails, but it was a nice lightweight alternative to my bulky pen & paper organizer if I just needed to have contact info. Next up came a Casio watch that also stored phone numbers and had a little voice recorder on it I got on clearance for dirt cheap. I ended up strapping it to my car's steering wheel so I had time and phone numbers when neither of my organizers was present. Do any of these devices count a s a PDA? How about the next device I bought, a Casio PV-400 Plus. I couldn't resist once I found out I could put in addresses as well as phone numbers. The to do and memo functions (and the built in games!) were pleasant bonuses. Okay, I was hooked.

I started becoming interested in Palm OS devices not too long
after I got the Casio, but successfully lived in denial for several months. The Casio and my p&p organizer had me covered....right? I almost bit last December but decided I couldn't justify the expens. Come February, I decided to look online at what programs could be downloaded to Palm OS devices. To say I wasn't prepared for the literally thousands of programs I found would be an understatement. Holy cow! 2 days later I was the proud owner of a VDx (blue) that I treated myself to for my birthday. I love it. Since then, I have taken advantage of closeout prices to experience the "other" 2 operating systems; a $99 Diamond Mako is a great device, but synchronizing is just too freaky so it is NOT my primary unit; a $149 iPaq is a fun toy, but is just TOO DARN UNRELIABLE (where's that reset button again?).

The Visor remains my favorite, and gets used every day no matter what else I may be doing with the Mako or iPaq. Oh yeah, I don't need the Casio or the Sharp anymore. But the watch is still in my car.

My first Palm OS device was (is) a Visor Prism. I work at Gateway as a Technical Support Professional and they sell visors. As an employee as was able to get the visor for near half price and that was paid by $7 being deducted from my paycheck. (paid weekly) I have always been into technology and had to have all the gadgets, I had already owned a Jornada Pocket PC and always wanted to know which OS was actually the best. So why not get a prism. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT.....once I understood how to get around and install apps. I must admit, out of the box WinCE is easier to use, but once you know what you are doing then it's Palm all the way. I don't even use my pocket pc anymore

I bought a Palm IIIe like, a year and a half ago. It was so ugly, I never used it, plus it didn't have much room otherwise. I sold that on Ebay and bought a Platinum. Now I can't live without my Visor.
