-- WAVY LINE SHIMMER PROBLEM (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11104)

Red face

I know I have complained on the boards on this issue a few times already, and if I sould redundant, please accept my apologies.

Over the weekend I purchased THREE new Handspring Prisms from Circuit City, Staples, and Best Buy. This means that so far, I have had 9 prisms in my possession over the past month. 8 of the 9 has had the WAVY LINE SHIMMER problems that are not cured by Afterburner 3.0t. Using the easter egg (while pressing UP, tap the Time tab on the left upper hand corner of the screen to get the dancing Handspring logo, and when that appears, press DOWN to get the date of manufacture of your unit. Every unit I have had has been made in August 2000 or November 2000.

Basically, I want to know from you lucky few who have Prisms with no wavy line shimmers WHEN your unit was built and where you got it.

AND, if any of you have had the shimmer problems, what did you do to fix it (OTHER THAN GET AN EXCHANGE FROM HANDSPRING, or a hard reset! I did the exchange 4 times and got refurb units with worse problems!)? I tried Afterburner and it does not fix it. Is there a Hack or something I can do?

PLEASE HELP ME! I really want to be a faithful Prism owner, but I can't stand the damn shimmies!

Thanks for your help!

Did you know there is a concurrent strand addressing the shimmer problem on Visor Central? I tried the Ester-egg manufacture date on the crummy Shimmer unit recently sent to me to replace a peely-paint unit with a nice screen (although the battery will only charge to 91%) The new Shimmer unit was made 11/8/200. My older unit, the one with the nice screen manufactured 8/24/2000. Are you sure this is manufacture date or perhaps OS extension upgrade date? Will see tomorrow if I get another dud shimmer screen. I wonder if to contain costs Handspring sends replacement units others have returned for different reasons and swaps them to unsuspecting consumers who, for instance have returned theirs because of reasons such as case cracks or peeling paint? I want a fully functional replacement. Is that too much to ask?
