-- MemPlug/CSpotRun Problem (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=13797)

Posted by GSR13 on 04-06-2001 05:04 PM:

Ran into a problem/bug using CSpotRun (CSR) for the MemPlug. I have approximately 25 documents in the /Palm/Programs/CSpotRun Directory and all of them are viewable by CSR. However, yesterday when I opened a document and it got to the bottom, there was several pages of text from another document showing up. It is like the documents merged together. I opened another document, same thing. It is only happening to documents located on the MemPlug and it is not permanent. You can move the document back to Internal RAM and it looks normal in CSR. Move it back to the MemPlug and it contains text from another DOC again. This is very irritating.

I just got a Stowaway Keyboard yesterday and I am wondering if there is some kind of conflict between the file/driver it loads and CSR or the MemPlug?

Can anyone else confirm this issue, Stowaway user or not?

no problem here

I have 9 Doc files on my smartmedia card and I just testsed all of them and none of them had this problem. I do not have the Stowaway, so it might be related.

I have 43 docs and the Stowaway on my Prism with the Memplug. All of the docs are running off the Memplug. I have not seen that problem. Sorry. If anything changes, I will let you know.

I have the same setup: Prism, Memplug, stowaway, and lots of docs on the SM card. No problems.
What version of the stowaway driver are you using? I'm using the original one (v1.0)

I started with the original version 1.0. I have now updated to 1.5. Interesting enough, before I upgraded to the newer keyboard drivers, I also had a problem with garbled text. All of my documents on the MemPlug would randomly exhibit strange character symbols in place of letters. Once I updated the keyboard drivers, this problem went away.

What currently happens is when I get to what should be the end of a document, the document keeps on going, only it is part of another document merged in with it.

Certainly strange and annoying behavior. I have sent this to Portable Innovation in hopes that they can offer some feedback. I appreciate any comments anyone has.

I've had this problem also (Originally credited it to a bad conversion), I'm running 1.5 drivers though.

Hi,

If you have a PC SmartMedia reader, you may try to scan your SmartMedia card with your PC, like "chkdsk" in DOS shell. See if there is fix any problems in your card. If you still have problems, please feel free to let us know. We will try to allocate some times for this.

If you have some programming knowledge. We strongly encourage you to join the developer program and get the source of Pi version's CSpotRun. CSoptRun is originally aim as a free example of using Pi's file system API. Thanks for your understanding.

CSpotRun Errors

I to have had a similar problem, although it is not related to any so-called "merged" documents.

I have been experiencing frequent fatal errors when attempting to "ROTATE" the screen followed by an auto-scroll. >> Try this and see if it happens.

Also, "ROTATE" does not work at all...

I also had a problem where CSpotRun reads docs off the SM card, but does not load any docs stored in RAM... Really weird, any explanations?

Thanks!

I've been able to rotate and auto-scroll at the same time without any problems. Are you running any hacks?

Hi Rob,

I use "ScreenShotHack" and "Green Light Hack"... Neither were enabled at the time of use.

Any other suggestions on why it would act-up this way?

I've only one problem with CSpotRun-It won't hold my place. It seems to always go back to the beginning of the first file on the SMC. When you are half way through an 800k Stephen King file and don't have the ability to do a bookmark, this is inconvenient.

I think that someone that knows programming and has the time may need to tidy up the code. I get the impression that the folks at PI only intended to give this a push and start it rolling and then for developers to jump in and kepp it moving.

Strategically, I think that time would be well spent in making some more key programs capable of reading from the SMC. I think this would make a huge difference in the sales figures for the memplug. But, don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have it as is.

Regards to All,

Steve (8C>

Thank you! Absolutely, you have fixed it. I continue to be very impressed with your product and your service.

Please don't take my comments regarding other programs reading from the SMC as criticism. I really do believe that if you had the time to make another GLP licenced program or two read from the SMC that the non-GLP developers might see some of their sales going to free programs because of the ability to read from the MemPlug. Certainly, this would make your product emerge as the defacto standard quickly before the latest Compact Flash product gets off the ground.

SMC is a better format for many reasons, as you know.

Well enough of my soapboxing...

Thank you again for being so responsive. I look forward to a long relationship with your fine company.

Best Regards from Music City, USA,

Wink

Remember to download the newest CSpotRun from MemPlug web site. I downlaoded it when it first came out. That version caused me the same problem as Steve had. I downloaded it again today and the problem is gone.
