from Handspring:

Question

Is this update different than the one from Palm? Or is Handspring just now getting around to posting it on their web site?

I just installed the Palm one last week to fix hotsync time-out issues (it did fix them). I got the file off of a couple month old MacAddict CD. So it was not that new.

It seems that every OS and update from Handspring is one that is tweaked by them for their devices. This one was posted on Sept 15.

I answered my own question last night. I downloaded the the Hotsync updater from Handspring last night.

First off, it was a much larger file. Second when I ran it, it stated that the update was for Mac OS 9.0.2 or greater.

I'm running Mac 8.6.

So there is a difference between the Palm update to Hotsync 2.6.1 and the Handspring update to Hotsync 2.6.1.

If you are having hotsync problems with Mac OS 8.6 or lower, use Palm's update to 2.6.1. If you are using Mac OS 9.0.2 or higher, use Handspring's update to 2.6.1. (If you are using Mac 0S 9, or 9.0.1, or even 9.0.2, update to 9.0.4 ASAP. There were just too many bugs in any Mac OS 9 less than 9.0.4.)
