-- Survey: How do you carry your Visor? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10715)
I've ripped the guts out of my day timer and use it to hold my Platinum, cell phone, and wallet, as well as a notepad and random scraps of paper. (You know, bills, receipts, etc.)
What I long for though, is a combo wallet/case. It would have slots for many credit cards/ IDs, and a pouch for money and receipts (and possibly coins.) Then, for times that you want to use your wallet without your Visor, the wallet could deploy from the case. (Maybe some sort of 'insert' system like a checkbook?)
Oh yeah, then this case could dock into a larger case that holds a phone and accessories and pad of paper.
Am I the only one wishing for this?
a regular 3-fold wallet
This only works for chicks with purses...
I knew when I ordered my orange delux 10/99 that I would be using 30x-40x/day. So since day 1, when I dumped the leather case and the plastic cover, I have just taken my regular 3-fold wallet, removed the check register(who needs it with pocket quicken), added 2 velcro strips to back of visor and the checkbook register spot. Folds up and snaps great. Always with me. Still have the same room for bills, change, cards, even ballpoint pen. Oh, and the wallet is 'red', the international sign for STOP. I just wish it would subconsiously work.
ps. no keyboard needed, no stylus either. just use your fingernail. The deluxe's grafitti recognition is the best.
NOT like my husbands palmIIIc. You have to keep the main selling point of bright screen at 15% maximum brightness to get any recognition with the stylus. Any higher and you just get gobblygook. Took me 3 days with dumb (or lying) tech support(..oh you must have installed wrong) and 20 seconds on a usegroup to find the solution to the gobblygook characters. Pass the tip on.
These links are for Ryan, who asked if there was a case with wallet. This wallet is even removable, and can come with a belt clip.
I was looking for the same thing for my husband. Meanwhile, for myself, I just converted my regular tri-fold wallet by removing the check register portion and replacing it with velcro and visor, fold, snap, and go.

Vaja, Vaja, Vaja!!!! I love it. I fall into the "slightly disturbed, gotta have it all" catagory. I currently have tried the HS leather, HSSport, infamous HS free slipcase, Rhodiana, Incase, Incipio and Vaja. I don't know if that qualifies me or not. BUT, I have to say the Vaja with belt clip wins hands down. It is a classy looking, well made, case. I've had it since November and it still looks great. I though since it's leather that it would begin to scuff and look worn but it hasn't. And since it uses a snap closure it still closes as it did the first day. I have the brown ostrich and plan on buying a new color. At first I thought the price was too much but by the time I add up the cost of all the other cases I bought, It's still cheaper. I highly recommend this case for anyone looking for a leather, belt-clip, case. You won't be disappointed.

Cases
Dave,
Sounds like you have gotten many suggestions, there is a website, DirectCase.com that carries many that have been mentioned. Vaja, E & B, Marware, all of these are belt friendly. Check it out.

When I'm not on campus I carry a small sporty looking purse that sits over my shoulder. In that I can carry my VPL, wallet and cell, snuggly. When I am in school though, I carry my VPL in one of the two smaller side pockets of my backpack for easy access.

P.S. I feel at home with geeks like you.
I am a Quality Engineer at a manufacturing plant. I spend a lot of time walking around the production area. I prefer a hands free carry method. I use a Targus belt clip case. It is nothing more than a rectangular box with a velcro flap. The leather is stiff enough to offer decent protection and the "fuzzy" lining is easy on the screen. The clip seems to be of high quality and grips a belt well. This set-up keeps me from laying my Visor down and walking off without it, as I often did with paper planners. Oddly, my Visor has attracted very few questions. I am the only PDA user in a facility of almost 600 people. Outside of work I use the Handspring slipcase. I never use the plastic cover as I find its two handed operation too inconvenient.
Pocket
I've spent a lot of money on fancy carrying cases and in the end I just throw it in my pocket 90% of the time.
I'm very impressed with it's durability 18 months of banging around in loose pockets with pocket change, keys and other junk - not to mention that I must've dropped it hard about a dozen times and not a single crack, and it keeps on ticking!
For a long time I wanted the Edge - but the VDX is so durable I think I'll just stick with this one if/when it ever breaks!

I use a Franklin Universal PDA case in my pocket. It's actually designed for Pocket PCs, but it works with Visors. It uses Velcro. It also has a slot for a CF Card, if I ever get an InnoPocket. One more thing, it has 3 credit card slots and a pouch for carrying money.
I carry it in my shirt pocket.
I do have the Tactilis Flip Clip and cover to protect it. http://www.tactilis.com/

When I'm not in the office, the Prism and VisorPhone ride in the EB Slipper, which also serves as my wallet.
In the office, the Prism (sans VP) rides in the Targus combo case with the Stowaway.
Ameribag
My prism and its flipcover have been pretty happy in an inside pocket in my little wallet/purse. It works great for quick trips to the store, and I can stow it in my briefcase when I go to work.
But after much discussion in another group, I've bought an Ameribag hoping it will end my quest for that perfect handbag. It has bunches of pockets for most anything and comes in several sizes, colors and fabrics. Plus, the design of the bag makes the weight feel lighter by redistributing the bag's center of gravity, so it relieves stress on the neck, shoulders and back!
Got my case from Wal-Mart
When I first bought my deluxe I carried it in my pants, then moved to an old cell phone case that had a velcro flap. I still use this one to go truly mobile. But I now need to carry my stowaway with me a lot and use a camera case I picked up at Wal-Mart for 5 bucks! Brand is Ambico.
The case has 2 pockets, a zippered one for the stowaway, thinmodem+ cable, backup module extra set of batteries and whatever else I can stuff in it(pens sometimes). The outside pocket carries the deluxe. Both fit sideways. I've found it extremely quick to get in and out on both the deluxe and the stowaway. \
Only problem is that I have to be careful not to go sprinting with the thing and not close the velcro flap around the visor. Did that one day and the visor could've won the olympic long jump competition. Ever since then I haven't had that problem. Any impact that can shoot the thinmodem out of its slot 2 feet further that the visor will almost make you mess your pants. Visor still going strong though.
Consider other ideas
I spent a long time looking for the "right" case or bag to carry all my doodads--Visor Deluxe, Nokia cel phone, checkbook, pens, Leatherman Micra, etc. I carried the stuff around to luggage stores, office stores, etc.--and my local REI store. (Eugene, OR) I finally got an Eagle Creek Departure Pouch II. It carries all that stuff and a bit more, with several pockets--the VDx fits in the rearmost pocket under the flap, the checkbook in a slim pocket in the middle, and the cel phone in the front pocket. I also have a pen and pencil, a Bic e.3 multipen/stylus, a dual-end sharpie marker, a set of keys, a measuring tape, some pills, bandaids, a small LED light, emergency cash, business cards, and something called the Pen Tool. The Departure Pouch II has a neck cord and a wide canvas loop on th back that you can use to carry it on your belt.
I can take a picture, scan it and post it or send it to anyone who's interested.
When I want to be "elegant," I get out the Vaja flip top cover.

My 'default' carry mode is:
1. FlipCover on the Visor Deluxe (green cover/ice visor- looks great!) It adds protection in the carry case, and also allows me to carry it in my pockets when I want to go light. By keeping the FlipCover on as a default cover, I feel safer about the screen, although I know it will not protect from a big drop.
2. I rigged up a 'belt clip'- a short chunk of nylon web that snaps over my belt and has a sturdy plastic clip on the end. I snap it over whatever belt I am wearing. I clip my case to this instead of my belt because: it is more comfortable and less obtrusive in the car; on service calls, I often have to get on the ground, and this prevents my pouch from being trapped, and I am a big guy and things clipped to my belt often 'dig in' uncomfortably.
3. GrinderGear "Expedition" pouch. This well-padded pouch also has a bunch of pockets on front. I drop the VDX in the main pocket, and carry an Eyemodule, Backup Module, and a Compact Flash module in the pocket. Plenty of room left for other stuff if I want to add it. This case allows easy one-handed access, and I can put my beeper on it, or do a lot of other things to or with it!
4. I also have my RhinoSkin 3000 case nearby with: Stowaway keyboard, Handspring Modem, retractable phone cord and female to female phone jack connector, 4 AAA batteries, a nice 4-in-1 stylus pen, HandyGPS, SoundsGood module, folding headphones, screen cleaning kit, spare screen protectors, notepad, small 'oops' kit (band-aids, safety pins, etc.), etc. If I leave one of the big modules out, I can carry my small Argus mega-pixel camera.
5. When appearances count, I use my Handspring distressed leather cover, and load my VDX with the compact flash memory card, then carry the Eyemodule and Stowaway in a simple pouch in my briefcase.
I purchased a carrying case from Staples by Aurex. Cost about $10. It has a carrying loop/belt clip that I can loop over my belt or clip onto my laptop case carrying handle. Great case for a great price.
Incipio!
I've been using an Incipio case (www.incipiodirect.com) for a long time...hmmm, maybe it's time for a new one. When I switched from a Deluxe to a Prism I have to put the Prism in backwards, but at least it keeps the screen protected. I keep all my cards and money in it so I can carry it by itself (It comes with a small hand strap) or put it in my purse with all the other stuff--keyboard, modules, phone, and gadgetry. I wouldn't be caught dead with a belt clip case.
As far as style goes, I haven't found a case to beat Incipio--where else can you get velvet, furry, or print cases?
Just picked up a Franklin Planner belt clip case from Target for $20. It's a little tight with the Prism, but it beats having that bad boy in my pocket! It does make me look like a real geek, however.

I carry my Visor Deluxe in its slip case and without the plastic face cover. Works well and takes a beating.
