Question hotsync errors

I've posted here before, and I know it's twice as fast as trying to get through to the handspring customer service (unless, the helpdesk people are actually moonlighting here).

But here goes:

Some parts don't get synced. Here's the log.

Local Synchronization
OK Install
OK To Do List
OK Quicksheet - sync configured to do nothing
Quicksheet did nothing
Memo Pad synchronization failed
"Memo Pad" failed (error = #-1)

and everything below that is failed on error =#-1

I use a Mac G3. Would appreciate any kind of help on this. Later tonight, I'll try syncing on my home PC and see if it has anything to do with the Desktop installed in my Mac.

Any ideas?

I'm not with HandSpring technical support, but I *did* stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night ... okay, so I didn't, but I'll take a stab anyway. (stab stab, bleed bleed, listen to Ms. Humphries scream ... oh, sorry, high school flashback.)

Have you tried:
1) turning the MemoPad conduit off?
2) turning the QuickSheet conduit on?
3) syncing each conduit individually (an irritating hassle, but might help to pinpoint what's causing the problem)?

Also, has anything changed recently on your G3 or on your Visor? (software or hardware install or removal, a bad crash, etc.)

I'm assuming you're using Palm Desktop for Macintosh; I tried to search Palm.com for your error number, but the site doesn't like my terms.
On the off chance maybe it's a Mac error and not a Palm error, -1 means "queue element not found during deletion" which makes me wonder if the Memo conduit file is missing or corrupted. Though I expect if the conduit file were missing, it would cease to be available as an option.

Yorick,

You are the man. I'll try it out -- all of it. Me thinks if all this fails I'll just reinstall the Palm Desktop software and take it from there.

And as for obscure 80's references (Ferris Bueller's Day Off), take your stab at this one: "Dave's not here."

Now I'll be REALLY impressed if you get that one, whether or not you stayed at the Holiday Inn.

Yo,

Loading "Memo Conduit"
Conduit "Memo Pad" version 2.0.0
Sync type is Fast
Remote database 1 name is MemoDB
Memo Pad synchronization failed
"Memo Pad" failed (error = #-1)

Got this when I tried syncing just the Memo Pad feature. I'll try to reinstall the software at some time. Any one out there had something like this before?

Nothing's changed much since my last hitch-free syncing except for the Quicktime update and Bejeweled.

(or something like that. Anyone know of a Cheech & Chong website with transcripts?)
True Story: I worked in the stockroom of a dept. store one summer, and the warehouse manager was named Dave. He got into a motorcycle accident and was laid up for about six weeks; for the first week or so people from the sales floor would come into the back and say, "Where's Dave?" and all three of us did "Dave? Dave's not here!"

back to the subject ...

I'm wondering if you have a (new-ish) memo on your handheld which might have something wrong with it. It'd be the next thing I'd try if you're still having trouble following a reinstall.

(few minutes later)
or, maybe the MemoDB file on your visor is corrupt.

I have the kind that shipped with the VDX. And it's synced fine before.

At least it syncs some conduits but not all of it. That way, it's unlikely that it's a hardware problem.

Do you remember "Door number one, door number two, or door number three?"

If you're thinking about Cheech & Chong, Monty Hall, or George Carlin, yes. If it's something else I dunno. Hey, I can't know EVERYthing; my existence is finite.

I stared at this a good long time before I realised what you meant. (Or, at least, I think I know what you meant.)
In my earlier post I meant a memo document (memo #1, Memo #2, memo #1,138, etc.) not the MemoPad app. Sorry.
On a slightly related note, is there a limit to the number of memos? Anyone know?
There's a limit to the number of characters, that much I'm sure of.

Thought about that limit, so I trashed some of the memos on my VDX before syncing. However, it doesn't make sense to have a limit on the memos stored on the Desktop itself, right?

Going to try to sync again. Was out two days. Let you know what happened.

So the Handspring people finally got back to me, and asked me to double the memory allocation for the Conduit Manager and the Hot Sync Manager -- which I did.

And I even did a soft reset. And I even re-installed Palm Desktop 2.6.1!!

Didn't work. So, I'm back to square one.

Any takers?

One suggestion
Backup your user data best way is export it
Than completely uninstall palm desktop trash anything directly related to it and rebuild the desktop, Boot back up create a brand new user name and import the data into it, delete the user name on the visor .5 and than sync
