-- Best Springboard Modem for International Travel (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11552)
I am in the market for a modem for my Visor that I can use in the USA as well as Europe. Which of the springboard modems would be best for this purpose?
Jav Atar
I have used both the Handspring modem and the Thincom modems very successfully in Ireland.
I've used the Xircom SpringPort modem in Paris, Chicago, and Indianapolis with no problems.
Thincom
I am using Thinmodem (purchased in USA, no availability in Germany at present) since 8 weeks all over Europe - means Germany (where I am located), Poland, Italy, Austria and GB. This stuff is really great; it fits the Visor perfectly, has low power consumption (I leave it in the VDX)and will probably upgradable to 56K in a few weeks). I love the possibility having the Thinmodem inserted while the VDX is still in the case (Vaja, Handspring.
Do it.

Another question.
I have a BVD & a Thinmodem. I will be traveling to Athens for a week in March and I would like to use my BVD/Thinmodem while I am there to stay in touch.
Questions:
- should I purchase a filter/surge protector for the phone cable? If so, which one?
- will I need some kind of adapter for my RJ11 phone wire to the Greek phone system?
- what about a local ISP? I thought about getting an AT&T Worldnet account for a month...do they have local access in Athens?
Thanks
Frank
