-- YADA YADA and Minstrel S Impressions (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=9175)
Just received (yesterday to be exact) the YADA YADA Box (it still says BETA VERSION in Red on the outside of the box on the corner...???)
There is no manual, no quick install guide other than the one on the CD from Novatel that explains how to set the unit up with information your provider gives you (ie - IP addresses, DNS, etc) Nothing saying that the unit is preconfigured for you, so I guessed that it was preconfigured. (suggestion - write down the IP information so if something DOES happen, you can recover easily)
Ran the software from their website, installed it to the first Prism - installed fine.
Inserted the Minstrel S into the unit, it started up, signed into the network, and voila, it said I was up and running.
Now the coverage, even in San Jose California (ATT) is pretty spotty, and I noticed when you go into certain types of buildings, coverage either drops by 50% or 100% loss
(-150db)
I had an issue this morning where I was in a spot that I knew worked yesterday, but it was showing greater than -100db loss, and the red light was on (LED in the middle). I called Yada Yada for help on my cell phone, was on ahold for about 5 minutes (or less) the Rep had me try a couple of things, then had me turn the system off and remove the modem, turn system on, insert modem, Red Light went out and I was back in business....
So first impression, its slow (what do you expect for 19.2) coverage is spotty, (thanks ATT) and the service so far (1 phone call) is pretty good.
Conclusion - it is worth the $150, if you absolutely need access and can put up with spotty communication/coverage.
I am now anxiously awaiting the Visor Phone to try out.....
What sort of coupon did it come with?
Hmmm... I was under the impression that Yada Yada used Verizon and that OmniSky used AT&T...
Around here, AT&T has pretty good coverage and I didn't really look at Yada Yada for that reason...

I have to admit I am a little dense about wireless service and was confused yesterday when I received my modem. I didn't know that it was already configured and was disturbed by the lack of instructions. I called tech support and had someone walk me through it. I, however, could not get a signal ( I live in Philadelphia) and tech support reset my IP and told me to try again in 30 mins. I tried again and still no luck. I called back and they decided to reset my IP again and I was told them would call me back in 30 mins. I was never called back. In the interim I went outside and discovered that I could finally get adequate coverage. I played with the browser and decided to set up my email. I then discoved I didn't have email so I called tech support yet again. I was told they would email the updated file - 14 hours later I still haven't received it.
All in all not a good experience and would not recommend yadayada.

I think yadayada is still in beta testing with the product, so some hiccups can probably be expected. I'll probably get it since I live in a verizon coverage area, but I need a Prism first.
